A Farewell, But Not Good-bye In any job there is always a beginning and an ending. That is known when a person starts to workg but in the beginning, the end seems far away, and the beginning, at the end, seems like only yesterday. For more than 13 years Mr. Lowry has served as principal of Washington High School, and for 12 years before that, he was associated with the schools of VVashington in some capac- ity-teacher, home and school visitor, elemen- tary principal. In his school life, there were moments of gladness and hours of sadness. There was s u c c e s s , and there was failure. At times storm clouds hung heavy. But through it all, there was his devotion to his school-its student body-its faculty. A devotion that could not Mr. Lowry and friend! He was interested in every student-in every school problem. He enjoyed having stu- dents rcturn after graduation, and he took pride in the graduates of Washington High School. His school day was not controlled by the clock, and long after lights had been turned out in classrooms, and teachers and students had gone from the building, the light in his office burned on. On lanuary 23 he stepped down from his position as high school principal, leaving a va- cancy in the hearts of students and faculty, for he was a man whom all could call friend.
