After twenty-five centuries the Acropolis at Athens still stands as a symbol to all the world for that brief mo- ment in history when man achieved his finest hour. The flawless proportions of the Parthenon tell us of a noble race dedicated to perfection in all thingsg the graceful maidens of the Nike Temple testify to a universal love of beauty that precluded ugliness and brutality, -the Discus Thrower tells us of a vigorous breed who sought physical well-being through moderation in all things and the pursuit of excellence, the Winged Victory epitomizes for eternity man's unquenchable desire to be free. Truly these symbols speak to all of us, surely we need to listen. In the belief that young Americans in 1964 desper- ately seek firm and worthy values to serve as guides in the constant choice-making of everyday life, we,the Lens staff, have restated some of those practical ideals that lifted the Athenians to such pinnacles of greatness. By borrowing their lofty ideals and dedicating ourselves to them, we can endow our own lives with something of the race, nobility and purpose that was ancient Greece.
