IN MEMORIAM '58 f 'H Bessle May Robmson Iuly 3 1897 December 6 1945 As a small ch1ld rn the thlrd grade Bessle Roblnson came wrth her famrly to Portland from Seattle fvhere sh was born I-ler schoohng was at Dav1s Grammar School whlch has s1nce been torn down at Lmcoln l-hgh School and for three years at Reed College Then rn order to specrahze ID hlstory she went to the Unwerstty ot Washlngton for both her bachelor s and master s degrees For twenty two years she taught ln Portland for the most part at Wash1ng ton I-hgh School One year she Nas at the Better Scholarshrp School For many years she taught at the hlgh school summer sesslon She also was very actlve rn thc Portland Hlgh School Teachers Assocra tron Partlcularly memorable IS her Nork ln turn1sh1ng and equlpplng a recreatlon room at the Portland Army Arr Base and tn provtdtng 'ood and entertalnrnent at Chnstmas for Barnes Hosprtal Although she loved her work and gave to lt a wonderful amount ot energy and vltahty her hte was not wrthout recreat1on and travel She went to Europe 1n 1927 v1s1t1ng the Contlnent and the Br1t1sh Isles and she made two trlps across our contlnent by automob1le lt Nas Wh1le on the tlrst ot these tours that she met wlth a ser1ous accldent caused by the reckless drlver of another car Th1s fall she was IH school as usual unt1l October 12 when she went to the hospltal for an operatton ln a tew weeks she was apparently on the road to recovery so that her sudden death .vas a great shock and brought a deep sense of loss to the Nhole hool as Hell as to her tamlly and fr1ends Bessle Roblnson f tll be remembered tor the del1ght she took tn l1v1ng She was always the center ot a hvply crowd ot teachers and puplls d1scuss1ng the vltal queshons o tne hour Sne Nas enthuslastlc Hnrnensely generous aggresstve and unatratd Per laughter f as one ot the pleasurable thlngs ln the halls and class rooms ot Wa htngton I-hgh School as sq, . , N 'qi . - .
