A 1 . 1 1 1 VIRGINIA BLANC yLL IVRBAN ACTIVITY CUP Each term the Activity Cup is awarded to the mo t outstanding boy and girl in the graduating class The winner in the Ianuary 46 clas were Virginia Blanc and Will Urban S lection was based upon chool activities scholarship responsibility personality cooperation and courte y The iob ot picking winners is done by the Executive Committee and a group of taculty members who make final selection Virginia Blanc has been very active in club work as president and treasurer of Neal: and secretary and treasurer of the Cabinet She Nas a member of the Library Council and her high scholarship entitled her to membership in the National Honor Society Along with all these activities she managed to play a prominent role in the class play Will Urban has just completed a successful term as student body president. This was his second term as an executive member ot the student body as last spring he was vice-president. He also was very active in clubs being vice- president ot Iunior Hi'Y and Euk secretary of Order ot W and a member ot Hi-Y. As an athlete he plafed football and baseball and was elected a. All-City basketball forward and -las a member ot the state championship team. He also managed to ind time to take part in the Lbrary Council and Student Council and appeared in tne llFantasies of '45.' We have the venetian blinds and the linoleum for the floor is ordered. Initiation was held November 14 at the home of Peggy Mar- gason. As a debating society Phreno participated in several debates through- out the term. The most important was the semi-annual Phreno-Euk debate. The most notable event this term was the obtaining and completion of our new club room. Two very enjoyable joint meetings were held- one with Girl s International of Grant and the other Nith Euk. Phreno was busy with its work this term decorating the George White Center for Christmas collecting comic books for the United Seaman s Service holding the annual Faculty Tea and Sadie Hawkin s dance and many of the members enjoyed ushering at the Civic Theatre. However the Gemen carried it over on three plays. Darrell Davis booted the point. Midway in the third quarter the Generals really put on a show as Smith shot through center after a lateral from quarterback Shaw and nearly got through the secondary before the Colonials could close in. He was forced to the side lines and apparently trapped when he lateralled to end Don Stamm who had little trouble going the rest of the way. During a two year intermission between his Sophomore and Iunior years, Mr. Hatton came to Portland to swim for lack Cody at the Mult- nomah Club. He held the city and state 50, HAL HATTON- Conch 100, and 220 free style championships and the Pacific Northwest 50 and 100 free style. l-lis first year at the University of Oregon he won frosh letters in football, basketball, baseball, and swimming, and at the end of his college days he had earned two varsity letters in both football and swimming. Upon obtaining his Physical Education degree, he began his coaching career. ln l938 Mr. l-latton came to Washington where he has coached football, basketball, and baseball.
