DEDICATION ' Last December, with unexpected 9 suddenness, death struck the faculty 9 of Washington High. The news of the -I untimely death of Mr. Glenwood f .l . Soldon came as a startling shock and the anguish induced by his passing was, and still is, visibly and profoundly felt by all those with whom he came into daily contact. The staff and adviser of the 1963 Hornet dedicate this year's edition as a tri- bute of love, affection, and respect to his cherished memory. Mr. Soldon died in the full tide of a career which gave great promise for fu- ture usefulness. He was greatly esteemed in our school and in the community as well. Here was a man of superlatively high standards as reflected in the ex- cellence of his record at the Agricultural, Mechanical and Normal College, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the institution from which he was graduated with honors in 1962. Other honors granted to Mr. Soldon at his Alma Mater were: election to Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society, Captain of the Lions, A. M. and N's football team, 1960-1961, Scholastic All-American, 1961, and election to the All Southwest football team. The genial personality and the high caliber of service rendered by this fine man will long be missed by those of us at Washington High. All of us who cher- ish his memory can perhaps find some small measure of consolation in the words of the poet Walt Whitman who wrote: He is not gone. He is just away, With a cheery smile and the wave of a hand, He has wandered into an unknown land, And left us wondering how very fair that land May be, since he taries there. It is our hope that this small tribute will serve to edify, preserve, and per- petuate the memory of Mr. Soldon, to whom this year's Hornet is dedicated.
