Clarissa Buckingham . Ned Brinkley . . Henrietta . Monsieur Francois . Signor Do Re M1 Pirates defy maidens' This is true of the theme of the mixed chorus operetta, Joan of the Nancy Lee . The attitude of the pirates toward womanhood is prompted by the oath they swore with Caiptain Dick. Captain Dick was formally Richard Camden Through a few sha y tactics, D1ck's cousin, Egbert, framed a treason char e against the Captain At the time of the treason accusation, Dick was Eethrothed to Lady Joan. A misunderstanding occurs and the lovers part, Dick to become a pirate captain and Lady Joan to marry Cousin Egbert. The highlight of the evening's entertainment came when Joan and her bridesmai s were captured by Captain Dick as they returned from the trip to purchase Joan's trousseau. During the course ofthe story, Joan acquires command of the boat. This unexpected happening creates comedy and pleasure for the audience, but not the pirates. They are forced to follow the law of chivalry. As the final curtain comes down, all is well on the Nancy Lee, as Captain Dick is freed of all charges and reunited with Lady Joan. Bogard 7 8 The Wildcats faced an 18 game schedule during the 1954 basketball season, and provided plenty of excite- ment for the fans, as several of the contests were decided by narrow mar- gins. The hard fighting team gave their opponents stiff competition, although they did not succeed in winning the East Kansas League, to close out the school's loop career, Anticipating the coming years, games with several larger schools were played, and under the able coaching of Al Sheriff, the Wildcats did excep- tionally well. Playing al- . most exclusively against larger schools with established baseball teams, the boys from Washington did exceptionally well. The team showed brilliance at ti.rn es, but their playing, I 9 unfortunately, was not consistent. They beat teams decisively and then allowed themselves to be dealt the same treatment by the school they had beaten. There is a lot of talent apparent on this squad and most of it is returning. With the guidance of Al Sheriff, the baseball teams are sure to continue to better their records in the coming season. BASEBMI BASEBALL SCHEDULE FOR 1953 i De La Salle 6 Washington 8 N. Kans.
