The club was organized 15 years ago for two purposes: to raise funds to support the athletic program, and so the coaches and parents could meet on a social level in order to get to know each other. The group meets the second Tuesday of every month, and the cost to join is $5 per family. Without the help of the Boosters, there’s a good chance that our athletic clubs would have long ago been eliminated. Therefore we owe a great deal to them. The Chess Club meets on Mondays in M- 3 , under the direction of Mr. McCrystal. The Chess Club goes to tournaments and competes against oth¬ er school clubs and some non school affiliated clubs. 15 CSF The California Scholarship Federation is a club designed to honor those who excel in school. Qualification depends on grade point average. Life members get the privi- ledge of wearing a gold tassel at graduation ceremonies, and at the end of the year, ten seniors receive scholarships. FUKEIGN You may have noticed our two foreign exchange students this year, either in one of your classes or somewhere on campus. They are Juha Lappalainen, from Fin¬ land, and Dann Moustgaard, from Denmark. Juha enjoys ice hockey, sailing, and watching Husky football. He has been stay¬ ing with the Docter family. Dann enjoys playing soccer, and is planning to go out for Varsity soccer this year. Dann is living with the Lundstrom family. Dann admits that he would not mind living in the United States permanently, but still prefers Denmark. Both exchange stu¬ dents seem to agree that Ameri¬ cans have been very friendly and open with them. Juha Lappalainen and Dann Moustgaard EXCHANGE “SENIORS GO HOL¬ LYWOOD” The class of 1980 took us to the first annual Spirited Academy Awards, and later to Washington D.C. to President Jimmy Cart¬ er’s state of the nation speech, the Seniors took a close second place in the 197 9- 1980 Spirit Week fes¬ tivities. “FRESHMEN TAKE A TRIP TO SHERWOOD FOREST’ The class of ’83 took us from a duel with KING SENIOR and Robin Hood and then to the wedding of Robin Hood and Maid Spirit, and finally to a very interesting imita¬ tion of our fighting football team. SOPHOMORES GO WAY OUT WEST Cowboy hats and boots were in style among sophomores, as they dueled and fought it out with the other classes to take 1st place in the Spirit Week competition. Coach Ingram took over the job as head coach and led his team to a 9 and 1 record. Throughout the entire season, the Huskies maintained the number 1 rating in the East Bay, and was ranked third in the state. The team was well respected, and played before some of the largest crowds ever. The Huskies rolled over their first opponent, who also was ranked first in their division. They beat Pinole and Amador, two of the very best teams in the area. The season boiled down to the annual rival game- Washington vs Mission. Before a packed crowd of over six thousand fans, the Huskies and Warriors battled for the MVAL championship. Although Mission came out on top, the Huskies should be very proud because they completed an excellent season No matter what the scoreboard says, we’re still number one. Zentner. I remember when I was a Freshman and the upperclassmen used to tell me Enjoy these years, they 11 be gone before you know it. At that time, 4 years seemed like such a long time but now I realize how short it really is. Of these 4 years, my greatest accomplishment is the 1979 80 Washingtonian. The long hours of hard work I have put into this yearbook have paid off and I feel that it is an excellent yearbook I have enjoyed working with the Publications class and my Co-Editor, Kim Rowe. I thank them for the help they have given to me this past year. My second greatest accomplishment is the past year’s presidency. I have enjoyed working with the class of 80 and I hope they have enjoyed the year as much as I did. I wish each member the best of luck in their futures and I hope you all reach your goals and get what you desire out of life. Much happiness is wished for you. See you at the REUNIONS! Penny Rondeau 79 80 Washintonian Editor Senior Class President This has been a terrific year! We had a great yearbook staff, and a great student body to fill our pages with fun memories. I d like to thank Penny Rondeau, Mr. Brower, Ash Studio, and the whole staff, for their hard work during the year. I would also like to add a special thanks to those people outside of the Publications class, who gave so freely of their valuable time. Without their efforts, our yearbook may not have been of such good quality Good luck and happiness always to everyone at Washington.
