Coach Bob Springer The Washington Huskies, a pre-season favorite to u(j(ot as MVAL champs, mpre than lived up to that prediction. Finishing the season with an unblemished 5-0 league record, this year ' s varsity extended Washington ' s win streak to 10 games. The Huskies opened defense of their 1968 title with a 19-0 win over Ken¬ nedy ' s Titans Rick Barbero was the workhorse for the Huskies as he carried the ball for 175 yards. Quarterbacj Pon Oden came into his own with an 8 out of 14 performance for 125 yajl and 2 touchdowns. The Huskies continued their pursuit of the title with a thrilling 13« 7 victory over Mission. The Huskies played a strong running game, aided by a hard¬ hitting defense to stop the jig running game of the Warriors, led by Northern California ' s leading rusherj Les, Pennelly.
