The end of the twelfth year is traditionally thought of as the end of school and the beginning of what is called life. If there is a major difference between the two periods, I do not know what it is. The stakes may be higher and the competition greater, but the basic rules will always remain the same. You will get out of life what you put into it. Your returns will be in direct proportion to the amount of your investment. Life is not much different from a football game. Your ability, your drive, and your spirit will all contribute to winning—or losing the game. Any coach will tell you that ability is only fifty per cent of the game. The desire to win seems to be the critical factor. More games are won by playing heads-up ball than by possession of superior ability, particularly when the ability is not matched by an equal desire to win. For eighteen years you have been preparing to play the big game.” The time has arrived to give it everything you have. Play the game hard. Play it to win, but play it fair and square. In the end, I believe you will find life to be an enjoyable, productive experience. Good luck to all of you!
