7kz 964- iVaakUcat uaK PUBLISHED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL FREMONT, CALIFORNIA SPIRIT has been shown during the year by the fine participation of Wash¬ ington students in extra-curricular activities. It is through their efforts that we can take true pride in our school. SPIRIT in our school has been shown by the pride we take in the name Washington High. The spirit we have shown at away games and at activities can only account for a part of this. A clean campus and our attitude in general have all contributed to our school spirit. SPIRIT can be observed in studying in the classroom. Students take pride in their individual scholastic achievements. With the help of a fine teaching staff and library, students have the opportunity to gain an ex¬ cellent education. SPIRIT has been shown throughout the year at our athletic events. Our teams have done well this year. Credit for our many wins can be given to the fine coaching staff, the hard work, and abilitity of our great Husky Spirit. 0 WASHINGTON WE LOVE THEE . . . Qedicati K In keeping with the theme of Spirit for this year ' s Washingtonian, the class of 1964 would like t o dedicate this edition of our annual to the students of Washington High School. f V DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION William J. TO THE SENIORS . . any good, therefore, that I can do, let me do it now .... for I shall not pass this way again ' The author of these words and the circumstances under which they were spoken are unknown to me, but the words themselves made an impression upon me long, long ago. They have always served to point out the necessity of never delaying a good deed. I hope they serve you well in the future as they have me in the past. You have spent the past four years at Washington. Each of you has made his impression upon the school. Some impressions are deeper than others; nevertheless, each of you has left his mark. For everything good you are leaving behind, for every improvement you have made, Washington will be forever grateful. You can never be forgotten, for as long as there is a Washington and as long as a Husky lives, a little bit of you lives imbedded in the Husky Spirit. Your job is not done yet. In fact, it is only beginning. You are leaving Washington behind, turning toward the future. Never look back with regret. Be glad you were a Husky, and whatever you do in the future, do it with the spirit of a Husky. Some of you will be going directly into the working world; others will be going on to higher education; but most important of all, each of you will soon be assuming the duties and responsibilities of citizenship. You will be collecting your inheritance, the legacy left to you by all Americans who have preceded you —the rights and privileges, the duties and responsibilities of living in a democracy. This legacy is to be cherished and maintained. There will be times when you will have to fight to main¬ tain it, and even that will not be sufficient. You will have to give to it something of yourself — something good —so that the legacy you pass to future generations will be greater than that which you received. Remember, though, whatever good you plan to do, do it now. You will not pass this way again. Thomas Ahern Now Coach! Now? Linda Aldridge Won ' f I Ever Learn? A Midsummer Night ' s Dream was presented by the Fine Arts Department in honor of the eve of Shakespeare ' s Four Hundredth birthday. The stu¬ dents did a remarkable job of portraying characters and showed sensitive understanding of the play. The sets were a credit to the Stage Craft Class and were perhaps the best that Washington has ever seen. A Midsummer Night ' s Dream was a real credit to all who worked on it, especially Mr. Bertino, the director. Stephanie Duke (Kritch), Barry Sawyer (Perfumo), Peggy Burnside (Lady MacBeth), Dave Thomas (Zorch), and Ken Boals (MacBeth) show how things run in a Fremont psychiatrist ' s office. The Music Man is set in River City, Iowa, an all- American town. To signify this, the sets were all done in Red, White, and Blue. Another set represented a typical train of the early Twentieth Century on which the traveling salesmen would ride. Harold trie to attract Marian ' attention, but Zaneeta and Tommy don ' t seem to notice. The musical score is also all-American. On the nights of April 16, 17, and 18, 76 Trombones rang out all over the Washington campus. They seemed to enjoy real theatre as a substitute for the usual Saturday cartoons. The sets enchanted the younger crowd, especially the castle which appeared to be from Fairyland. The cast did a superior job and were very convincing in their characterizations. Cinderella was a production of which the Drama II class could justifiably be proud. It is possible the Huskies scent the chance of winning a league title, powerful Lick and Lincoln being potent adversaries. A fine nucleus of returning lettermen and a good crop of experienced Juniors are the main assets of the Varsity this season. To date the game record stands at two wins, one loss, and one tie. If by chance the Huskies don ' t fare well this year, the chances for the ' 65 club seem bright in a new District League. They should have as many as ten returning ball players, including the entire catching staff. As can be seen, chances for this and next year ' s clubs seem bright; work hard, Huskies, and hope for the best. To an incoming Freshman, who has played nothing but little-league ball, high school ball seems like a lot of work: running and constant practicing of fundamentals (as is shown in the few snaps on this page). One spends approxi¬ mately three hours, after school, shagging fly balls and scooping countless numbers of grounders. All this work will not seem very difficult to the Freshmen with the desire and will-power to improve himself in hopes that he can one day fulfill his dream of playing Varsity Baseball. For he knows the work is for his own good and he will make his time in Frosh-Soph competition well worth while.
