Senior Class presents The Curious Savage John Patrick,s play The Curious Savagen, which was first produced in October, 1950, was selected as the senior production of the class of 1954. Through Ethel Savage, played by Patsy Elorine, the audience met gentle inmates of the Cloisters . Elorence, Barbara Wallace, Hannibal, Roger Hinkeldeyg Fairy May, Sharon Holmes, Jeffery, Charles Stiles and Mrs. Paddy, Caryl Lee Kreykes. The purpose of these people, according to the playwright, is to show contrast between Mrs. Savagels children and the insane world on the out- side. Representing that world are Titus, the senator, Charles Peterson, Samuel, the jurists, James Smith, and the much married Lily Belle, Irene Angnos. The children design to have their mother declared insane in order to control the family millions for themselves. As guardians of sanity and proportion Dr. Emmett, Ronald McManus, and Miss Willie, Patricia Osterling, added to the solution of the complica- tion which arose over Mrs. Savage,s sanity and her ten million dollars in bonds. These people, each with his own lack of mental balance, should be remembered for their qualities as human beings and not for their incapac- ities. This comedy, blended with charm, humor and fantasy was presented April 8 under the direction of Earl Sherman, speech director, with the help of Betty McKenzie and Sandra Locke as student directors. Also assisting Mr. Sherman were James Smith and Frank McFarlane on stage production and Jeanene Johnson on make-up.
