r Cache published by the class of 1963 Washington High School Washington, New Jersey Foreword This book has been designed to rekindle fond memories of Washington High School, especially our senior year. We hope we have captured some of the real spirit of W.H.S. Contents FOREWORD__________________2 DEDICATION________________4 ADMINISTRATION____________6 SENIORS___________________9 UNDERCLASSMEN____________39 SPORTS___________________47 ACTIVITIES_______________61 FACULTY__________________85 ADVERTISING______________95 DEDICATION It is often said that the best things in life are taken for granted. A fitting example of this is the friendship which has been shown to Washington High School and its students for the past twenty-seven years by Mr. Clifford Pursell, mechanical drawing teacher. For this reason, it gives the Class of 1963 great pleasure to dedicate this year's CACHE to him. Most of the boys know and respect Mr. Pursell, but few of the girls have had an opportunity to become well-acquainted with him. Any student needing help always finds willing assistance at any time. There is seldom a day when Mr. Pursell cannot be found giving aid to some students. This man's cheerfulness, willingness to help and devotion have made him a teacher in the highest sense of the word. Mr. Clifford Pursell ADMINISTRATORS SIDNEY EFFROSS Superintendent of Schools Superintendent's Message A philosopher, I am told, was asked what he thought boys and girls should be taught. He replied simply, Those things which they will use when men and women. Your school is ever attempting to meet this responsibility, not only in an academic way, but in the creation of well-rounded individuals who have the mental abilities and the moral aptitudes to meet life's problems well. We are proud of the accomplishments of our students but we are not content to rest on their laurels. Tomorrow, even greater problems will confront them. May the Washington Borough schools do their part in creating graduates who can meet the challenges of a changing world successfully. The members of the faculty and the Board of Education join me in wishing you the very best for the future. Sincerely, SIDNEY EFFROSS Superintendent Washington Public Schools 6 Principal's Message Best wishes to all the members of the Class of 1963. The future looks bright.
