Members of the National Honor Society are selected from the junior and senior classes. To become eligible students must first have a general scholastic average of 85 or above. Applicants are then rated on their characters, leadership, and service as displayed in the school and community at large. Preparations were made for a Christmas assembly and also for an evening performance but these programs were cancelled because of the early closing of school. The spring concert was presented before Easter vacation. The Home Economics Club, an organization of girls who are interested in every phase of homemaking, meets each week with girls doing such projects as they desire. These include cooking, sewing, and craft projects. There are approximately thirty-five active members from all four grades. Membership is open to anyone who is interested in taking an active part in club projects. The club also plans several social functions each year for members and their friends. It is the hope of the officers that this club may become a strong organization in Washington High School. Junior Classical League Last spring a new organization, the Junior Classical League, was added to the group of activities in our high school. The Creed of the League reads: The members of the Junior Classical League covenant to hand on the torch of classical civilization in the modern world.
