OUR SCHOOL FACULTY The lights of civilization are being rekindled throughout the world. The darkness of war, greed suffering, and famine is being driven from the earth. Mankind must learn the art of living together before it is too late. Civilization must move forward. It is your challenge and your responsibility as students to help build a better world. May you succeed where we have failed! May the guidance received at Washington High School enable you to play nobly your part. We are counting on you. Joseph W. Howe Supervising Principal When the atomic bomb burst in Japan, men suddenly became aware that they were to live in a world with undreamed of power for good or evil. This event made it urgent that we educate ourselves to control this power if we are to live in peace and happiness. It is up to you to see that we do not let atomic power work for evil. The world is changing; you must change with it. See to it that these changes do not dissipate the sources for good of all that has gone before, as the explosion in New Mexico vaporized the steel tower. In America you have the opportunity to protest or approve. Use this power intelligently at all times when you hear of injustice. Remember that true happiness comes through service to others and loyalty to your home, country and church. Donald H. Fritts Principal £7]
