For the first time in the history of Washington High School one individual has held the office of Student Manager for two years. That one lad was Ray Dahlin, who did a grand job in the highest office of the school. Ray was head of the executive department which enforced all school laws passed by the Council, he repre- sented Washington High School in its inter-school relationsg he chose the various committees. The judicial department was in the capable hands of our judge, jack Lardis. jack, with his staff of deputies, prosecutors, and grand jury, held student court sessions to uphold school laws. The judge with the student manager had special conferences with the Council to determine a standard for school laws. The clerk, Yvonne Phillips, acted as an efficient secretary for the council and court. She kept all the business papers and the records of all proceedings. Out of a squad of thirty-three men, only five were seniors. Only two of these five saw unlimited action. The nucleus was composed of juniors. sophomores, and up-and-coming freshmen. This young team suffered heavy and discouraging defeats, time and again, at the hands of older and more experienced football squads. Bloom Township, Whiting, Hammond, Laporte, and Roosevelt high schools, whose lineups consisted of hardened veterans, hammered our team spirit until it was warped, but not one of them could kill it. One bleak Thursday night in October, after the 'experts' had rated our chance of winning below zero, our boys went out and put highly touted llaminond Te cli on the short end of g l3fO count. Veterans, such as Arzumanf ian, lvfosora, and Vuliazich, were outstanding in this victory. VARSITY FOOTBALL Front: Managers Comer and Hager. Second Row: Nelson, Rozowski, Vanderzyde.
