V. THE MAGAZINE DRIVE As in the past few years, Washington High School has had a magazine drive to raise funds for needed articles in the school. This year the drive was a project for the Y-Teens and the Washington Brothers, under the supervision of Miss Giffin and Mr. Fauber, respectively. As sponsors, these groups had the co-operation of every pupil in the school, and the drive was a tremendous success in raising funds for our two fine organizations. In every drive there must be a winner, and the Washington Brothers, by their endeavor, earned that honor. Led by Ruben Leal, manager, and Iames Monos, captain, the boys put on a fitting show of teamwork. The Y-Teens, with Rose Lazar, manager, and Edith Gerkin, captain, lost by a very slim margin. The award for the highest salesman was a radio. Max Hall and Iames Monos tied for first place, consequently both received a radio. Other prizes awarded were pen and pencil sets, wallets, compacts, and others too numerous to mention. Both teams were grand winners in promoting co-operation on a scale never before attempted in Washington High School. To the Washington Brothers and the Y-Teens, Washington High School gives commenda- tion for an interesting contest between two eager teams. This organization has proved its worth by its magnificent performance on the various con- certs and school assembly programs These musically inclined teenagers, under the inspiring direction of Miss Shearer, have worked very hard on all their compositions. They have been rewarded by the appreciation and esteem shown by the student body of Washington High School. The officers are Ray Ragelis, president: Iohn Gogolak, vice-president: and Dana Davis, secretary. With such capable and amiable leaders as these, this ambitious group of stu- dents has been able to develop and exhibit their wonderful talent for music.
