Allhough he has long been associaled wilh lhe Easl Chicago school syslem, lhis year is his lirsl year as principal here. ll we recall lhe experiences and lraining ol lvlr. Cash's pasl, we will be able lo undersland more lully lhe reasons why he is a mosl ellicienl principal. lvlr. Cash was born in Lebanon. lndiana on December l2, l896. l-laving gradualed lrom Lebanon l-ligh School, he enrolled al Wabash College. l-lis educalion was in- lerrupled by lhe lirsl World War when he enlisled in lhe navy. Aller serving his counlry, he received his discharge and resumed his sludies al Vifabash College. l-lis lirsl iob was coaching and leaching al a school in Warsaw, Indiana. l-le held lhis posilion lor lhree years, and il was lhere lhal he mel lhe woman who laler be- came his wile. l-le lell lhe leaching prolession and wenl inlo business lor a ,year and a hall belore he lirsl came lo Washinglon l-ligh School. ln l925 he was our loolball and baslcelball coach. This posilion was conlinued lor lhirleen years lherealler. Following his iob as coach, Mr. Cash was lhe direclor ol physical educalion in Easl Chicago lor six years. Lasl year he was promoled lo lhe posilion ol assislanl principal. As assislanl prin- cipal he execuled his dulies very well and also learned how lo underlalce and successlully perlorm many ol lhe responsibililies ol a principal. This year he is our principal, and under his splendid leadership ilems such as lhe planning ol schedules and classes, lhe organizalion ol new courses, and lhe ordering ol supplies have been lalcen care ol wilh lhe ulmosl consideralion and care. lvlr. Cash's unusual abilily in handling lhe problems ol sludenls and underslanding sludenls has been recognized by all. l-lis lcindly guidance and wise counseling in disci- plining and in direcling lhe boys and girls have marlced his adminislralion. The class ol l946 leels deeply honored by lhe opporlunily lo be under lhe guidance ol Mr. Cash while in lheir lasl year ol high school.
