ROSSMAN Superintendent of Schools East Chicago, Indiana ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION In this modern day of machine production and mechanized living the student of progress is very much aware of the necessity of organization in order to make the institutions of industry run with precision The development of a smooth running system in the industries of a city 'Ike East Chicago calls for level headed planning and efficient execution on the part of those placed in command The man of the world the patron of the school is little conscious that in the educational institutions of the cities and towns similar organization is neces sary The School City of East Chicago may be said to resemble the industrial unit in the respect of this need for orderly running Its several plants worth millions of dollars house thousands of workers the boys and gurls of today presided over and guided by several hundred teachers and supervisors The direction of all of these into a system of education is in the hands of the representatives of the people of the city the Board of Education Its three mem bers President E H McKenzie Joseph W Dunsing secretary and Mrs, Bertha E McQuald treasurer perform the policy making functions of the organization directing the securing and disposition of funds and the preparation of new equip ment or the replacement of the old The executive officer of the Board is the Superintendent The able functioning of Mr John G Rossman in this capacity dur :ng the past years has been extremely efficient and the cause of education has prospered thereby The Washington High School ns but one unit in this system but IH its size and variety of functions is far ahead of any other of the units The twelve grades in cluded in the unit enroll more than 3 IOO pupils The elementary school occu .1 I - I I ' ' I 11 11 - - 1 I 1 1 ' ' 1 ' ' 1 ' I I ' I I - . 1 I - , .
