The Edison Science Club On Thursday after Thanksgiving Day the lirst Science Club in the history of Surrey School was organized by the interested members of the Junior and Senior Classes. The club drew up a constitution and elected the fi llowing officers for a term of one school year: President ....... .... C . T. MENTZER, JR., '25 Vice-Prcsidrnt . . . ...... FRED Mossy ' , 25 The purpose of the club was to stimulate interest along scientific lines and to aid the students to understand new inventions and everyday questions that could not be discussed in class. - The club maintained a point system for topics discussed on the weekly programs and in this way everybody had to get in the whirl and help it along. Many interesting experiments were performed and much knowledge and enjoyment was derived from them. Beside the work that the club did in its Thursday programs it sponsored several excursions to nearby industrial plants and mills. Boys' Debating Club In the early part of the year the Debating Club was organized under the leadership of Mr. Bowser and Mr. Glenn. Later, an election of officers was held. C. E. BECK The other members were, J. XV. Cable. J. E. Shockey, H. Rider, E. Schroyer and I.. Gruber. At first the Club dwelled on minor debates and proper methods of debate until the Child Labor Question arose. Then each member prepared a debate on the subject, in order to pick from the Club a team for affirmative and nega- tive. The teams picked were: Agirmativc Negative Q J. R. BIESSERSMITH C. E. BECK J. W. Camas E. Scr-xnovan J. E. SHOCKEY A. JAY SCHAFF Very much preparation was made by both teams in getting all material possible and debating among themselves.
