In l953 we started our high school days as freshmen under the guidance of Mr. Abernathy, who was also a newcomer to W.C.l-I.S. During our four years with Mr. Abernathy, he as proved to be a true and helpful friend, and a man who was willing to give us assistance in any of the projects our class undertook. Through the past years Mr. Abernathy has always been fair and impartial in his deci- sions, and we seniors appreciate the effort he has extended in our behalf. To you, Mr. Abernathy, we sincerely and proudly dedicate this book. -5- X ':K:Ef .:- ' ' - :- - Y ML af sw 1 W '34 5 1022 3 V ze Y X ffl , Aki, 'EL Q ., . The first night everyone at- tended the pep assembly and snake dance. After wearing themselves out in the snake dance, they dented Gary Lucas's old car, painted in Dunlap's colors, to help the W Club raise funds for a new football scoreboard. All floats in the parade followed the song title theme. Autumn Leaves, entered by the F.H.A., won first place. Sophomores placed second with Noah's Ark. Third place was a tie between the juniors with Winner Take All and the Seniors' Victory Lies Be- yond the Blue Horizon. Homecoming would not be complete without the football game. The players made everyone happy overpowering Dunlap, 47-0. After the game, everyone danced in a heaven of Stardust. Homecoming has grown bigger and better every year. This year was certainly no ex- ception. ESSIG MOTOR COMPANY Chevrolet St Oldsmobile A Athletics around WCHS were a thrilling feature to the majority of students during the 1956-57 school year. Following the football, basket- ball, baseball, track, and cross coun try teams brought many joys into our hearts. Peter Van Dyck and Mel Romani were elected our student council representatives . With these officers and our cooperative class advisors, Miss Casperson and Mr. Paulsen, we knew we'd come through the year with flying colors . Marge Phillips was chosen as our Homecoming Queen Candidate. Our float, entitled Winner Take All , of which we were very proud, tied for third place in the Homecoming Parade . One of the big highlights of the year was our play, A Connecticut Yankee in King Ar- thur's Court. With a big percentage of the class working on it and the wonderful directing of Mr. Sparling, it was an enormous success. We would like to thank Mr. Sparling for his time and effort. Last but certainly not least, was the junior-Senior Prom to which we had all been look- ing forward. A11 the cooperation contributed helped make it a big success. With the help of our advisors, Mr. Stromberger and Mrs . Turner, we began our first year at W.C.H.S. Our class president was Larry Starr. Steve Roosevelt was elected vice-president: Tom Nelson, treasurer: and jane Haas, secretary. Marg Ebert was our student council representative. After surviving Initiation Day, we had Homecoming to think about. jane Haas was our candidate for queen. Our float, My Prayer, did not place for a prize, but we enjoyed working on it. It is always fun to experience some new adventure. That is the way we feel about our first year in high school, and we know we will continue to enjoy high school in our remain ing three years . --113- Abbott, John Aberle, Rachel Alexander, Otto Arnold, Nancy Ash, Sherrilyn Ashton, Janet Aylward, Pat Bailey, Bill Barton, Steve Berry, Garv Beebe, Jerry 4.
