The desire of the 1943 Wacohi staff is that this yearbook may be enjoyed as much as and treasured more than the comic strip. Illust- raging the escapades of today's teen ager are the everyday occurrences in the funnies. The readers of the colored sec- tion avidly follow each day's doings of their heroes and heroines and look forward to the next exciting episodes.Simi- larly, the W. C. H. S. students find each school day's events absorbing and enjoyableg yet they know they are mere preludes to a stream of happenings which await each individual when high school work is ended. F CJ O 1'lB A L l. R O IJ N IJ U P The season of '47 showed a highly spirited football team With the return of six lettermen, Mr. Babcock coached the team to a fairly successful season. The team showed its best all the way through the season, which it finished with a record of three wins, two ties, and four defeats. Gene Cherrie, our outstanding back, led the Panther scoring column with 61 points. The Panthers won their first game against Dunlap 13-0,after playing a scoreless tie with Chillicothe the week before in the season opener. After proving a soft touch to the Farmington Far- mers, the Panthers found themselves as they walloped Tremont 39-20 The Red Raiders of East Peoria downed the Panthers 20-0 after a slow first half, and the following week it was the Morton Potters that spelled defeat for Washington in the Homecoming game. After tying El Paso on a rain-soaked field, the Panthers returned home to blank Eureka, 13-0 We closed our season by playing the perfect guest to Meta- mora as they won their homecoming game, 6f0. The Future Homemakers of America has a prosperous and fruit- ful year under the leadership of their advisor, Miss Florence Roth, and their President, Marilyn Clark. The local F.H.A. chapter was represented at the House of Delegates in Peoria by Ferne Imhoff and at the Spring Bay Camp on Lake Bloomington, Illinois by Sylvia Alig The Club, consisting of forty-seven members, became a member of both National and State F.H,A.
