The natural beauty of our campus is due to its location in the remote country area of the Eastern Shore. The winding Chester River and the beaches of the Chesapeake Bay pro- vide an atmosphere of leisure. The campus itself, with its brickwalks and shade trees, is ideal for an enjoyment of the outdoors. We can easily see change and tradition: the growth of the Elm Tree, its dedication to past memories. Time affects natural surroundings . . .

College is a place of change. After four years, we leave here with a new view of ourselves and our world. Not only do individuals change, but the college as an institution is constantly developing, and always building upon the achievements of the past. Perhaps in most ways, the Rever- end Dr. Smith would not recognize the college he founded at Chester Town. The campus has expanded greatly since its earliest days, and is now undergoing further develop- ment. But there are many traces of the past in our college life. They have become an inseparable part of Washington College, embodied in tradition. The PEGASUS this year attempts to remind us of these traditions. It seeks to show the movement of time, always accompanied by change, in the history of Washington Col- lege. It reminds us of those things that change and those that become familiar emblems of the past, linking past and present, and projecting what the future may hold.
