SHE WAS JUST SEVENTEEN As the nours roll by, both short and long, In the distant unknown can be heard death's song, It strikes in the city, it strikes in the home, It strikes on this earth wherever we roam. I am writing in particular of one that I knew, Just one of thousands who was one day like you: She went to her Maker, the Maker of all, And begged of Him hu bly while answering His call. She was just seventeen when her summons was called, She was just seventeen when her heart stalled: The red in her cheeks grew pale in the night, As do the stars when they fade out of sight. It doesn't seem long since she sat at her desk, Working her lessons and But now she is gone with the Gone with the rest down Her death was not sudden but doing her best, eternal time, the unfaltering line. prolonged day by day, And a sea of suffering as patiently she lay: The struggles she confronted, the trials she endured, Is known to just those who cannot be cured. Then slowly from her body went all signs of hope, And in reverence she was covered with a spotless white cope: The family drew round her and in silence they cried, And prayed that she may had happily died. , The day of her burial soon was at handy Between time and forever was just this one strand: It doesn't seem so that she's answered her call, It's more like a dream in a dim darkened hall.
