I dashed back mto the house and got my sweater so that I wouldnt be too chlllv But by the tlme we got underway I wnshed that I had brought 1 fur coat along 1nstead of a llttle thm sweater Dxckle s car was an old model A Ford wxth no w xndow s and practlcally no doors When he really got the old thlnq a gomg I had to hang on to the dashboard By the tlme we had reached M1Chl3S I had helped pitch three blowouts and walked 1 couple of m1les for some qis When we re ached town Dlckxe md I hwd to walk through town beciuse he was afraxd that he would be stopped bw the town cop He saxd that he 1ust dldnt have the 50c or maybe more to spare We went to the moves 'at my expense Dlckle was broke After the show we heided for home By the txme we got there I was neirly t1red out We droxe mto the y'1rd 1nd lt seemed to me that I lust couldnt get out of thwt old tmp fast enough I yelled good bye to D1ck1e and thanked 1m I went unto the house and stood up for the next fue hours You probably haxe guessed by thls tlme why I just couldnt slt down AUDREY RAMSDEII 52 TEACHING A GIRL TO RUN AN OUTBOARD Some boys complam th'1t teachmg x glrl to drne 15 a lob They would prob ably change thelr mlnds 1f they ever trled to teach one to run an outboard motor she wanted to run the motor so I slo cd It down and we changed pl'1ces I1 tru 1 1 to keep the boat headed stralght h kept moung the motor back a d f h Our path through the water looked l1ke a snake s back A few days later she thought she w ould l1ke to be able to take the boat out alone so she pestered me to teach her how to start control and stop the motor Fmally I had to gne m but I trled to dampen her sp1r1ts by lett1ng her carry the motor to the boat Before she had gone ten steps I declded that It would be better for the motor 1f I carrxed It myself I let her fill the gas tank and she got more 111 the boat and w iter than m the tank After she had been shown the dlf ferent xalxes and controls she attempted to stirt the motor When she pulled the start1ng cord out she w is afraxd th1t lt would backflre and klck her 15 I I I -I -II I II c ,I .I . .' . 5.
