ACT l Any Morning 7:40 As curtain rises, Miss McGee is holding the door to the rear of the stage open as Mrs. Morgan and Miss Jones enter. Miss Jones is humming a catchy tune, and she and Miss McGee try out the operetta dance steps on their way across stage. Mrs. Morgan consults a memo- randum and murmurs, Before school I must see Mr. McElroy, Cookson, Jackie, Marilynn .... 7:55 Mr. McElroy enters west door, unlocks outer office, hangs up hat, unlocks inner office, opens safe, unfolds newspaper, makes out tuition receipt, reads absence excuse, answers this, explains that, draws a deep breath - ha! ha! the day has begun. 7:58 Miss Steele enters south door, takes off coat, greets the cooks, puts on her coat, and starts off for store. 8:00 North door opens to admit Mr. Piper, who makes his way across stage with Hello , Good Morning , Hi , Good Morning , Hello to right and left. 8:05 Mr. Haun approaches from south, Mr. Cookson from north, Mr. Ross from east, and a three cornered panel is held at north end of stage . By degrees they reach the office, linger awhile, and gradually drift in the direction of their several rooms. Mr. Howbert is now seen mounting stairs to the north. Sound of voices increases in volume until a loud bell is heard. Silence and each teacher disappears behind a closed door. JEAN E. I think I have a better idea. lwill call on some of you to tell what you think was important during the school year 51-52. First let's have Margaret. Margaret, what did you think was important? The first thing that comes to my mind are the clubs the boys and girls can belong to. For the girls there is the Pep Club, F. H, A, , and Y-Teen. Most of the freshman girls belonged to these clubs. The boys have the F, F, A, and Hi-Y. There were a number of freshman boys in each. Thank you, Margaret. Jerry, can you tell something you thought was important? The boys have athletics that they can go out for. Most of the boys went out for football. All the boys in physical education went out for basketball. Baseball and track found the freshman class well represented. Thank you, Jerry. Mary Ellen, do you have something to say? Mary Ellen: I might add that the freshman class started with thirty-three members and has gained four members. We took one of the Honor Banners each nine week period. Janice: Thank you, Mary Ellen. None of us will forget the freshman class picnic! We all had plenty to eat and had lots of fun, especially Miss Jones and Mr. Cookson. Julie: Mr. President, Imove these remarks be recorded by the secretary as part of the permanent record of the class. Larry: I second the motion. Arthur: That is an excellent idea. Those in favor? Larry: Yes, beginning last fall with the football games. Do you remember the first game of the season with Horton, when it pouring down rain? Marlene: When the bus got stuck and we had a wrecker pull us out! Merril: The game was won that night by one of our sophomore boys, Roy Cox, running the extra point. Kay: Larry, I'll never forget the operetta, Tulip Time, when you were the cute little Dutch boy, Hans. Larry: Thank you, Kay, I thought you were a good Dutch boy dancer too. Shelley: I enjoyed all the dancing, singing and the colorful costumes. Iola: I think the future basketball teams of Washburn should be good because so many of the sophomore boys are getting a lot of experience playing on the B team. Larry: I thought the sophomore girls did a swell job serving at the Christmas dance. Merril: Oh, yes, and all the girls wore such pretty dresses that night! Kay: Hats off, to the committees in charge of the F, F. A. , F. H. A. , and Athletic banquets! They were a great success. Shelley: I especially enjoyed the food. Marlene: Wasn't it fun serving at the Junior-Senior Prom! Larry: That's where you get a ringside seat to watch the upper classmen. Iola: We get out early tonight to watch the baseball game.
