Black History The month of February was Black History month. Many people participated in making it a valuable learning experience. Each day on the morning announcements various pieces of information were given about famous black people. Besides the daily recognition, the annual Black History Auditorium took place on February 16. The show began with three emcees: Greg Brown, Lctitia Andrews, and Liz Johnson. Liz read a powerful poem about black girls considering suicide. Then there was entertainment for the eye. Kevin Jenkins, head of a local modeling agency, coordinated the modeling show which featured nine of Washburn’s young ladies. Following that performance was one by three young men from Washburn called Remember My Name.” They told of the many black achievers in history. The final presentation was given by Warren Boolcs of the Mixed Blood Theater. He portrayed the life of Martin Luther King. Black Achievement 1983-84 the theme of the program was put across well to the students of WHS. 18
