PROM The elegant Calhoun Beach Club, with its sweeping staircase and exquisite balcony, was the location for the 1978 Prom. A room set aside for refreshments and conversation contained rustic wood floors, plush sofas, and dazzling chandeliers. Mirrors and a marble fireplace lined one wall of the dance floor. “Orion played both mellow and exciting disco music. Although the music ended at eleven. Prom did not. Many couples went to private parties or extravagant restaurants afterwards. For some. Prom did not end until five o’clock the next morning.

Although March 12 was a wet and chilly day, it didn’t hinder 147 couples from attending Washburn’s annual Semi-Formal dance. The dance, organized by the Student Council, was held at the Howard Johnson Inn located in Burnsville. The students danced the night away to the sounds of “Aire.” 15

LADD ’N HEIDI PETER ’N BETSY FRIENDSHIP DANCE Who’s the Mcfriendliest guy in town? Who’s the Mcchccriest fellow around? Who is the funniest? Whose smile is sunniest? No, not Ronald McDonald! In the revival of the Friendship Royalty, it was decided that Heidi, Ladd, Betsy, Peter, Katy, Bill, Sue, and Brian met up to these tough qualifications. Preceding the coronation ceremonies everyone was entertained by the winter sport teams’ presentations, which were remarkably humorous. The crowd went into an uproar when the gymnasts enticed a few unsuspecting guys into joining their exercises (Mr. Clifford Johnson proved to be more agile than we had believed!)
