Girls Prepare For Homemaking Students enjoy new facilities. Cookie decorating takes time and patience. On many occasions during the past year, the delightful aroma of pies, cakes, and cookies filled the halls of Washburn. In addition to cooking, girls learned sewing, interior decorating, and cleaning in home economics classes. The girls took full advantage of the newly-remodeled classrooms this year. New ranges and dishwashers were among the many appliances recently installed, the girls also hosted several teas and parties in the new dining room-living room accommodations. These modernized facilities greatly aided students as they studied the fundamentals of home-making and home economics. Culinary talents are developed in cooking class. A skirt takes shape.

H Traynor's biology class. Our New World Chemistry analyzes the composition and transformation of chemicals. From the results of experiments, seniors formulated general conclusions about the laws of nature. Knowledge gained in science classes prepares students to meet the growing challenges of a scientifically inclined world. But more importantly, it increases their understanding of the environment in which they live. Physics generates student interest. Pickled animals await dissection. It's all in the technique. 19

Shops are updated and techniques improved. Drafting calls for precision and concentration. Industrial Arts Opens Boys Futures Boys discuss current problems in electronics. The industrial arts department underwent extensive change this year. Not only were the traditional courses of drafting and woodworking offered, but also courses in metals and electronics. These classes necessitated the addition of two new teachers. Mr. Hol-strom and Mr. Krook. Classrooms in the new addition, were equipped with modern machinery; however, students were handicapped by the fact that the machines did not arrive until several months after the opening of school. Woodworking provides a constructive outlet for students.
