Mr. Daniel demonstrates ancient war weapons. Worldwide knowledge encircles Washburn. While we read history we make history. 1965-1966 finds the world in chaos. ,Y George William Curtis The Social Studies department, headed this year by Mr. Ario, compares the past with the present. New classes such as philosophy, the study of logic and human nature, psychology, the study of human behavior, and sociology, the study of the origin of our society, were offered to seniors on an elective basis. As sophomores, students began a study of both American and world history. In their iunior year they went further into these phases of the past and examined the workings of the world that have brought us up to the present. Under a new curriculum this year, Washburn seniors learned the ways of the government, the economic system of the nation, and the various current events in the world. In order to solve today's complex problems, one must probe the past, gain realistic knowledge of the various political theories and philosophies, and must understand human behavior. The social studies courses are designed to furnish this knowledge in an interesting way. Washburn students thus become prepared to meet their future responsibilities.
