To some people, This immediately conjures up a picTure of sTudenTs wildly cheering aT an aTh- leTic evenT. l Think, hovvever, ThaT real school spiriT is someThing much broader Than This. IT seems To me that iT includes The feeling which exisTs be- Tween The faculty and The sTudenT body, a feeling of muTual respecT and undersTanding. Then, if morale is high, we have a siTuaTion where real learning can Take place. l believe That We have been very TorTunaTe aT Washburn To have a group ol dedi- caTed Teachers To sTimulaTe and To in- spire sTudenTs. We have been equally TorTunaTe To have a sTudenT body wiTh high goals and a desire To achieve. This happy combinaTion of TaculTy and sTudenT body has made iT possible Tor us To perpeTuaTe The Washburn TradiTion of scholasTic ex- cellence, despiTe The many physical dilTiculTies ThaT have hampered us. We have been able To overcome The obsTacles of an overcrowded school and a staggered class room schedule because oi The spirit of mutual coop- eration beTvveen TaculTy and sTudenTs.
