Leading Seniors Score . . . again The Senior Board, headed by Rob Gis-vold, class vice president, and Mr. Meyer, class adviser, met weekly to arrange for such events as the Senior Snow Party, class day, the Commencement Dance, and the Senior Banquet. Led by the Senior Board, each homeroom was in charge of a specific senior activity in helping to carry out important parts of our senior year. Credit Bureau, under the guidance of Miss Stevenson, and the leadership of Mike Welbaum, class treasurer, was comprised of a person from each senior homeroom. The bureau planned the senior budget and collected class dues. The money collected was used in paying for the WAHIAN and Grist as well as other necessary senior expenses. Bob Gisvold, vice-president Mike Welbaum, treasurer Dan Nelson, president Kathy Rasmussen, secretary Senior Class of 1961 Iking a member of the Senior Class of 1961 has been an honor anti an exciting experience. We 600 seniors worked together at a multitude of activities. We will always remember Homecoming I960, the Snow Party, the Commencement Dance, and the train ride. We are proud of our years at Washburn High School. President Dan Nelson presided over senior homerooms and represented our class on formal occasions. Vice-president Rob Gisvold let! Senior Board and assisted Dan in senior homerooms. Mike Wclbaum handled our financial business and directed Credit Bureau. Records of the Senior Board meetings and senior homerooms were kept by Kathy Rasmussen. 16

 SELECT SENIORS Washburn’s honor group consists of those students in the top two per cent of the senior class. The students in the honor group also display excellence outside of the academic. Chris Bjork was president of NHS and a member of the swing band. Gavin Wright was a member of the track team, treasurer of the student council, and a member of the Hi-Y cabinet. Meredith Jewson attended the University of Minnesota second semester and was our APS representative to Finland last summer. Co-editing the Grist was Steve Stoll. Another Grist number and president of Politix Club was Larry Halpern. Kim Larson, also of the Grist staff, was president of Latin Club. Karen Stewart was a Grist reporter ami a member of German Club. Paul Richmond captained this year's golf squad and was active in German Club. Sharon Martinson served on senior board, and Jim Scheincr contributed his talents to credit bureau and the tennis team. An active member of Blue Tri was Jan Ricker. Serving on Poplars staff were Betty Jensen, Mary Kelly, and Sally Wall. Both Sally Wall and Mary Quest were on WAHIAN staff, and Mary was on the girls’ swimming team. Joan Lewis spent this past year living in Iran. Our class secretary, Kathy Rasmussen, was on the Blue Tri cabinet anil a member of German Club.
