Stage Hands A movie cast can’t survive unless it has sufficient nutritious food to keep it going strong; therefore, the cooks play a very important role in student life. It is a known fact that healthy bodies are supposed to produce sharp minds. The janitors keep the studio in order by keeping the props neat and clean. Many a scene has been “cut because of faulty props; however, nothing much goes wrong in our studio. Both of the services these people provide are an essential part of the operations in our school. We couldn't do without them. L to R: Mrs. Maunu, head cook; Mrs. Carlson, Mrs. Nelson. L to R: Mr. Carlson, Mrs. Bellile, Mr. Day. 10

The Class of 1978 proudly co-dedicates this annual to John Albers, who passed away in the summer of 1977. His wife, Jeanne Duquette, who preceded him in death, gave him two sons, John and David. Mr. Albers was born in Antigo, Wiscon- sin, on March 15, 1918. He attended the Grade and Park College in Buffalo, New York, and also studied medicine for three years at Union College in Schnectady, New York. During the depression he moved to Wash- bum and worked for a few years at DuPont as a lab technician until he was called to service in 1942. He served in the Medical Corps for four years. Afterward, Mr. Albers was graduated from Northland College majoring in English and science. He was an honor student throughout his education. His hobbies included photography, fish- ing, hunting, and most outdoor sports. He has contributed a great deal to our school system. He first taught at Washburn High in 1955. A few of the courses he taught were American literature, chemistry, and physics. He also was the forensics coach and school photographer who took most of the pictures that are in previous annuals. The enlarger pictured on this page was bought with money donated by some people in Washburn as a memorial. He was a very fine man who led a fulfilled life. We certainly appreciate his accomplishments. Henry David Thoreau sums it up this way: “If one advances confi- dently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” Oscar Award 9
