CHEQUAMEGON '70 WASHBURN HIGH SCHOOL WASHBURN, WISCONSIN WASHBURN IS . . . 2 3 Dedication We, the Senior Class of 1970, are pleased to dedicate this annual to Mrs. St. Germain. She has been our advisor for the past three years, we’ve all had her in class, and we’re grateful for all the help and attention she has given us. Mrs. St. Germain graduated from Ashland High School in 1962, and then from Northland College in 1967 with a B.A. degree in English and a minor in Music. She began her teaching career at WHS in the fall of 1967. On December 29, 1969, she and Robert St. Germain were married in Las Vegas. 6 No man can reveal to you ought but that which already lies half asleep in the dawning of your knowl- edge. The teacher who walks in the shadow of the temple, among his followers, gives not of his wisdom but rather of his faith and his lovingness. If he is indeed wise he does not bid you enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads you to the thresh- old of your own mind. - Kahlil Gibran 7 Annual 9taff Keeps Up Work L.-R.: W. Sytsma, Business Manager; C. Handberg, Editor; p. Westerlund, Co-Editor; D. Pratt, Sports Ed- itor; C. «Corning, Copy Editor. The 1970 Chequamegon is a student’s view of a year that will soon become only a mem- ory. This year 1970 will rapid- ly become almost undistin- guishable from those that have gone before and those that will follow. But what time erases, this book will preserve. An atmosphere that tingled with sincerity, nervousness, sadness, and joy has been sensed this year and can never again be fully recaptured. We of the Chequamegon hope that this year's annual will in fu- ture time give your heart a spark of pride when you remi- nisce about the good ole days ; how we caused our school spirit to be the liveliest ever. We began the year anticipating the responsibilities which lie ahead of us as juniors. Homecoming, our first big project proved to be successful. Music was provided by the Grassfire” and it was enjoyed by every- one. Our prom, Shower of Stars, was said to be one of the most beautiful ever. Over 30 couples danced to the music of Ernie Caroll and his orchestra. The Junior-Senior Banquet was held at the Marine Club. We hope that the seniors and the faculty enjoyed it as much as we did. We are looking forward to returning next fall as seniors. 32 33 Can you make it. Bob? What do you mean you don't want peas? What answer did you get, John? 34 SOPHOMORES FIRST ROW: Mr. Rapps, Adv., L. We sophomores started the year by electing Sharon Bergman as our Homecoming Queen candidate. Unfortunately, we did not enter a float this year. Even though we were unable to have a formal initia- tion, we put on a record hop and later on in the evening, gave the freshmen quite a scare. We were hard up for money and put on a dance April 4th. We worked diligently in hopes to put on a successful prom and banquet next year. 36 I get the strangest feeling I'm being followed! Poetry in motion. I wonder if this one will get past the censor. 37 Ya, this is my favorite book. 'One picture is worth 1, 000 words. Watch a mighty sophomore, Jim. Gee, that's impressive, Dave. As Home- coming rolled around, we were extremely busy. Sharon Cuty was our candidate and was selected as Home- coming Queen of 69. Our float stole first place. We didn't have initiation this year but we did give a dance for the sophomores. We didn’t make much, but we all had fun. We are now looking forward to re- turning to W.H.S. next fall as sophomores. 40 Our man SODY. Who says we're the weaker sex?' Break up that party! D. Jack, S. Anderson, G. Swenson in Shop.
