CHEQUAMEGON WASHBURN HIGH SCHOOL WASHBURN, WISCONSIN WA SHB URN IS .. . Contempla tive, 2 0 UTGOING, Omnipotent, 3 COOL!!! 4 TABLE OF CONTENTS Dedication - - Yearbook Staff Administration Seniors-------- Juniors------- Sophomores - - Freshmen - — Organizations - Activities - - - Athletics - - - DEDICA TION The end has come, as come it must To all things; in these sweet June days. The teacher and the scholar trust The parting feet to separate ways. They part; but in the years to be Shall pleasant memories cling to each, As shells bear inland from the sea The murmur of the rhythmic beach. - John G. Whittier 6 We, the Senior Class of ’69, dedicate this “Chequamegon” to Mr. David R. Kedrowski. For three successful years he has been a most faithful advisor. His understanding and guidance have proven invaluable during our high school years. Mr. Kedrow- ski graduated from Adams-Friendship High School in 1960. He is also a graduate of Stevens Point University with a B.S. degree in U. S. History and a minor in Sociology. He began teaching at WHS in the fall of 1966. On August 22, 1964, Mr. Kedrowski and Carla Gerard were married in Stevens Point. They are now the parents of two chil- dren, Michelle Lynn, age 4 and Mark Anthony, age 1. Another member of the household is their dog, Peggy Ann. 7 YEARBOOK STAFF MAKING DECISIONS Miss Fredrick, Adv., A. Maassen, B. Volak, P. Pearson, D. Dagsgard, J. Branzeli, L. Kelly, B. Peterson, R. Under the auspices of our editor and advisor, the 1969 Annual Staff again man- aged to meet every deadline, finance the job, and turn out another annual. This year had turned each talented member into photographers, writers, and typists. Unsuspect- ing classmates found themselves captured on film as they stealthily took candids. Long hours were spent after school working on layouts and write-ups. The 1969 Chequame- gon has attempted to capture some of the year's action for your memory and enjoyment, 8 ADMINISTRATION ADMINISTRATION MR. KORPELA, Superintendent Mr. Ernest J. Our first big job was Homecoming which was enjoyed by all, from the bonfire to our football victory to the music of the Small Society. Spring brought on our next project, the Junior- Senior banquet, at which we honored the Seniors and faculty to the theme of It's a Small World. Love is Blue filled the atmosphere for over forty couples at the Junior Prom. Simple decorations and music by the System provided a wonderful evening for all. We now look forward to being Seniors. Gee, I liked that story, Mr. Albers. 31 M. Strycharske gives J. Then some adrenalin. J. Meyer and M. White play with chemistry set. W. Sytsma - talking! Miss Fredrick and W. Sytsma planning annual. You're beautiful! You're beautiful! This is more fun than tinker-toys! The sophomores started the year by selecting Denise Gaber as our Homecoming Queen candidate and entering our float, Let's Water Mellen, in the Homecoming Parade. Next came the annual Freshman Initiation held on Oct. 11. As was our purpose, we gave the Frosh a pretty good scare. Winter soon fell on Washburn High and in between our many activities of skiing, basketball, and study- ing, we managed to put on the Christmas Dance. It proved to be one of the highlights of the snow season and was enjoyed by many of our reveling students. In our constant quest for money-making projects, we again decided to sell the Tom Watt kits. These, as last year, gave us a big lift to our treasury. So we come to the end of another good year, but we expect that the next, our junior year, will be the most rewarding yet. Robbie, what answer do you have? 35 C. Larson, K. Zifko, C. Strycharske. I don't think Jim knows what this is. R. Johnson - HALT! Come on, team! Now, students, this is commonly known as a branch. T. The National Honor Society began the year with ten members in its Chequamegon chapter, and their first big project was to finish the Indianhead League standings board which is hanging in the gym. The next event was the annual induction of new mem- bers on March 12. After the ceremony, a tea was held for the teachers, members, and parents. Proj- ect: Dress Down Day took place on May 2, and the purpose was, of course, to enlarge our funds. The year closed with nineteen members, four of whom will be leaving after graduation. Why don't we just TRY it my way? Concentration coupled with fun. Go to your room, Bruce! Dedicated to the Cause! 47 HI-TIM ES STAFF The Hi-Times staff has worked hard this year to meet their once a month publication deadline of the school newspaper. Our activities included a whosit” profile contest in which entrants were to make their guess on various students' and teachers' profiles which were post- ed around the school. The con- test received much enthusi- asm from the faculty and student body. I Mrs. D. Johnson, Adv., S. Bolin, Co-Ed., C. Freiberg, D. Bruneau, Ed., M. Schwenzfeier, D. Maunu, C. Larson, J. Anderson. MA” TEAM CHEERLEADERS - Though seniors dominated the cheerleading squad this year, they wouldn't have been half as great without the help of a LITTLE soph. They blistered their feet selling Christmas wrapping and bows to earn some extra money. With this money they bought red and black pom poms and performed a pom pom routine with the Bayfield cheerleaders at the sub-district tournament at Washburn. In Nov. they attended the cheerleading clinic at Eau Claire State U. Now that the year is ended we honor the three Senior cheerleaders Peg, Mary Sue, and Lynn, that are leaving and hope that future W.H.S. cheerleaders will be able to continue the tradition they kept alive. It was a great year for cheer- leaders! I B TEAM CHEERLEADERS - Taking into consideration that it was their first try at high school cheering, Diane, Sue, Pat, and Mary did a fine job at leading the team to numerous victories. From their performance this past year we know Washburn will be tops for years to come. Both teams thank Mrs. Anderson, for all her help. M. Kalinowski, S. Anderson, P. Kainu, D. Haugen. TIL WE MEET AGAIN . . .
