CHEQUAMEGON 1963 Washburn High School Washburn, Wisconsin Foreword Buildings, statues, skylines - these elements and many more constitute America. Surrounded by sparkling waters and land masses, our great country lies in a strategical setting. However, to the students of Washburn High School, America means more. There are the ideals and thoughts of individuals and of a nation, as illustrated in quotes and photographs. These form the real heart of America. Upon leaving high school and going in diverse directions, seeking happiness in college, marriage, service, and employment, the Washburn graduates will aid in passing on our American heritage. -2- Dedication We, the Senior Class of Washburn High School, dedicate the 1963 Chequamegon to Miss Alma Haase who has unselfishly given her time and artistic ideas and abilities to make our class projects successful and memorable. To her we are most grateful. We also pay tribute to Mr. John Albers in appreciation and gratitude for his in- valuable guidance throughout our high school years. We shall always remember his unique manner of sitting upon his desk. -3- Chequamegon Staff -4- Those diligent Junior girls? FIRST ROW, left to right: M. Dittbrenner, Bus. Mgr.;S. Bergman, ArtEd.;J. Everything we do will affect it. Each day brings with it new horizons, if we will only recognize them. We were told that Mr. Albers and Miss Haase would be our advisors. They helped us to understand the school traditions and told us what would be expected of us as high school students. It wasn't until after the Sophomores initiated us that we felt really at ease in our new surroundings. Before we knew it, final exams were over and we were mighty Sophomores. We enjoyed initiating the new Freshmen. We held two different projects that year to raise money for our treasury. At Christmas we sold Christmas cards - that summer we held three car washes. Our busy junior year began with Homecoming. This was the third year in which our float re- ceived top honors in the parade. Bill Bratley and Bruce Johnson represented our class in the state forensic contest. Then came the most important projects of the year - prom and banquet. The Junior-Senior Banquet was built around the theme A Touch of Holland. At the prom we danced to the music of Ernie Carroll's orchestra among decorations depicting Shangri-La. This year, Seniors going to Madison for the state forensic contest were Louise Faulkner, Sharon LaGrew, and Bruce Johnson. Peter Sytsma was selected for the All-Conference basketball team. So now, as we graduate, we bring to a close four happy years at Washburn High School. Enter to Learn — Go Forth to Serve ' Homecoming Float before . . . and after.
