School Forest The students of Washburn High held a Youth Conservation Day on May 2, 1962. The project for the day was to construct a public wayside on the site of the school forest. The Student Coun- cil was in charge of the operation. Some of the jobs included the building of fireplaces, con- struction of a foot bridge, repairing of fences, and clearing and hauling of brush. The day was a huge success. A great deal of work was completed and it was hoped that many people, es- pecially tourists, would use the wayside. Cutting of firewood for school forest. These fireplaces are guaranteed to smoke. Girls can work, tool 1 Big Four plans strategy.

School Board FIRST ROW, left to right: B. Lindsey, L. Sanger, E. Schwenzfeirer. SECOND ROW: P. New- house, J. Perry, E. Ross, E. Branzell. Superintendent’s Message I would like to challenge each and every Senior of the 1962 Graduating Class. When you graduate and accept the responsibilities of citizenship, do not measure your success by what you accomplish, but measure it by what you should accomplish in relation to your abili- ty. When you do this thing, and do it well, then you have reached a measure of success. In addition, make the necessary decisions on the basis of your own good judgement, do not be unduly influenced by others. Possibly this philosophy is best expressed in the words of Jeremy Bentham when he said, HE WHO THINKS, AND THINKS FOR HIMSELF, WILL ALWAYS HAVE A CLAIM TO THANKS: IT IS NO MATTER WHETHER IT BE RIGHT OR WRONG, SO AS IT BE EXPLICIT. IF IT IS RIGHT, IT WILL SERVE AS A GUIDE TO DI- RECT: IF WRONG, AS A BEACON TO WARN. 6 JAMES D. PERRY
