We feel that this theme is appropriate in that a candle symbolizes light and knowledge. A can- dle, which changes, can be compared to the changes that our lives go through dur- ing high school. The 1962 yearbook is a new type of publication. It is a summer edition which was completed in June and distributed in August of 1962. A book of this kind covers more activities and events. Late spring functions such as baseball, forensics, and the current ban- quet and prom are recorded. The most important benefit is that all the events of graduation can be included. We hope you are pleased with the 1962 Chequamegon and in future years will gain much enjoy- ment from it. 2

School Forest The students of Washburn High held a Youth Conservation Day on May 2, 1962. The project for the day was to construct a public wayside on the site of the school forest. The Student Coun- cil was in charge of the operation. Some of the jobs included the building of fireplaces, con- struction of a foot bridge, repairing of fences, and clearing and hauling of brush. The day was a huge success. A great deal of work was completed and it was hoped that many people, es- pecially tourists, would use the wayside. Cutting of firewood for school forest.
