Senior () ass JJrop iecp The following article appeared in the Washburn Daily Tribune June 5, 1979. The class of 1959 of Washburn High School has cancelled its class reunion which was to have been held this week-end. Superintendent of Schools Harold A. Maki, chairman of the reunion, received replies from almost all of the members stating that they were too busy to attend. Mr. Maki and his wife, the former Barbara Johnson, are the only members left in Washburn. Several members of the class are leading very interesting lives engaged in military service on foreign shores. General Harlan D. Ledin is currently leading an invasion of England. Sergeants LeRoy Eliason and Frank Mesner are also particiapting in the invasion. Stationed in a field hospital near General Ledin's headquarters in Paris are army surgeons Phyllis Pesce and Lew Ellyn Sytsma. By coincidence, Shirley Tast is General Ledin's secretary and takes care of his private affairs” in Paris. George Malinoski, former labor leader, is command- ing a guerrilla band of Polish freedom-fighters. Camped outside of Warsaw with him are: Vice Commander Jim Malcheski, Dave Niemi, Charles Gierzak, Pete Guski, and Jim Zanto. There are several others overseas, not in military service, who will not be able to attend the reunion either. Big game hunter Leslie Potter and his wife, formerly Nancy Maki, are leading an expedition into the Mau Mau territory of Kenya. They are accompanied by missionaries Bill Wedin and Charles Browne. Mr. Potter will hunt the rare Hodung, while Reverend Mr. Wedin and Mr. Browne will try to convert some of the Mau Maus. Heavy weight champion, Larry Christianson, has been booked by his manager, Ronald Johnson, a disbarred lawyer and a religious fanatic, to fight the Russian champion in Moscow next week and is undergoing heavy training there. The remaining members of the class are scattered all across the United States of America. Each is engaged in very interesting work and is unable to make the reunion. Zsa Zsa Amraen, Fanny Scott, Kitty Cousineau, and Bubbles Henkel are participating in a Las Vegas Spectacular (all are top chorus girls). Judy Dahl and Shirley Raarup, members of the administrative board at a mental institution in California, are running tests on a supposed relative of Ed Gein. Donna Moe is helping her old friend. Senator John F. Kennedy, in his campaign fcr President in the 1980 election. She is living in Washington. D.C. This will be his fifth attempt and Donna says she thinks he will make it this time. Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Paul Blanchard, has announced there are to be no Russian Spies in America! Russia stated to him that there was no need for spies in America becuase we know nothing that they don't already know. Judy Mesner and Joyce Jacobson, agents of the F.B. I. are on a special mission, location - top secret. Karen Leafblad, now in Minneapolis, an employee of General Mills who took over when Betty Crocker retired, has just announced a new cake made of watermelon seed flour. Ray Guski and his wife, the one-time Arlene Maunu, are living outside of Madison, Wisconsin. Ray is the manager of the State farm there. Stuart Taylor, Editor of the Washburn Daily Tribune, and his wife Kathleen, the former Kathleen Burlager, will entertain the Harold Makies for afternoon tea on June 8, 1979 as they are the only members of the class remaining in Washburn. They sincerely hope that in the near future that the other members of the class will be able to take time out from their busy schedules to join them for a real reunion here in Washburn.
