One of the activities of which we are especially proud is shown in these pages-the sum- mer tour program, lnaugurated in l952 with a trip to Mexico in which forty-two particl- pated, it continued in the summer of l953 with a similar trip to Cuba. This program shows all signs of continuing. Eventually it is possible that one of our groups will be able to take a summer trip to Eurcpe. Certainly summer trips to Mexico will be planned as often as practical, as often as there is desire on the part of the language students to learn more of our neighbors to the south. Other activities of the Spanish Club range from informal game parties in the gymnasium to an annual steak banquet in the cafeteria. These functions have come to be traditional and are much-anticipated each year. This vear the practice of showing Spanish language movies has promised to be another worthwhile activity which will doubtless become another of those traditional activities. This year, too, an aIlASpanish weekly mimeographed news' paper, EL ECO, was added as another activity which has drawn considerable attention and has elicited further good effort cn the part of the membership, The success of this varied program cf activities is due solely to the enthusiasm cf club officers and the membership at large. It is hoped that this enthusiasm will carry on and that the activities of our club will continue as good wholesome entertainment and further opportunity to learn more about another language, another people. THE 1954 TRACK season was inaugurated with a decathalon which was almost completely dominated by the Class of '55. The next track event on the '54 agenda was a cross country meet at Arvin in which the locals tcok a fourth place in competition with other schools throughout the county. The interclass track meet then took the lime-light in the track picture with the strong Junior Class again dis- playing their powers. The first track and field meet was held at Arvin in which Wasco thoroughly dominated the meet by winning all three classes. A triangular meet was then held at Shafter with the Wasco thinclads winning the A and C classes and North High taking B class. Wasco then took on the Shafter thinclads in their annual dual meet, with the Tigers dominating the A and C classes. This meet was a highlight of this annual event as the Generals broke five of their school records and one Wasco record was broken. A storm cloud then hung over Kern County for the next two weeks raining out the annual Wasco, Corcoran Triangulan meet and postponing G triangular with Taft and Shatter. This meet was run off at the beginning of the next week with the very strong Taftmen taking the A class, Shafter the B and our locals taking second in A class and first in C class. After ccming from the first A class defeat of the season the Wasco club then journeyed to nearby McFarland to have a triangular with Garces. Allowing only one first place to be won by the opponents in A class, two first places in B , and one in C , the locals tallied up many points. We then come to another highlight of thei '54 season, that being the First Annual Wasco Small Schools Relay -Carnival, in which the Wasco trackmen over-powered all rivals of l5 schools, taking first place in A division, first place in B division and the C division suffering their first loss of the season. A new school record was set by Don Forth in the high jump, thus being the first school record to be broken to date in '54, Providing the plague of illness leaves the locals alone the remainder of the year, their season should be success- ful-Good Luck to them! B0 S' TENNIS THE BOYS' TENNIS team of Wasco High School compiled a creditable record ot ten wins and two losses. They posted victories over East Balcerstield, Tatt, Delano, l2l Arvin, McFarland, Corcoran, Le- moore, Exeter and Coalinga. Losses were to the league champion Shatter team and an early season loss to East Bakersfield. Both the first singles entry, Don lsaac, and the doubles entry ot Joe West and Bob Strauss, reached the tinals at the South Sequoia Toura- ment held in l-lantord. Team members are Don Baker, David Clemens, Elbert Enns, Don Isaac, Ronnie Mathis, Bill Siemens, Bob Strauss, Bob Velviclc and Joe West. RACQUBTEERS Woo W' Back Row: D. Lambert, J. Wilcox, E.
