WAR' Class History In the fall of 1929 a class of more than sixty ambitious young men and women entered XVarwood High School to be called freshmen , Billy Beall, who has since moved to Pittsburgh, was elected to lead us as president, VValter Schnell as vice-president., Bill Coleman as secretary-treas- urer, and Miss Guiher as advisor. Gold and blue were the colors chosen. The first social event of our high-school life was the F'reshn1an-Sopho- more party. Both boys and girls gave promise of being very active athletes. Bill Coleman, VValter Schnell, Tony Slenski, and Harry Dunlevy showed their ability in all sports. The girls received quite an honor XVl1t'11 they won the class basketball tournament. The rest of the year was uneventful, except for the commencement exer- cises on May 29, 1930, whe11 the diplomas which were presented to us made us full-fledged high students, ready to enter the sophomore class. In our sophomore year, we elected the following officers: President. Frank Rowley, vice president, Vtfalter Schnell, secretary-treasurer, Esther XViles, with Miss NVilliams Hlld Mr. O'Donnell as class a-dvisors. At the be- ginning of the year we entertained the freshmen with a F'reshmen-Sophomore party. What a glorious time we had! Our class was very proud to have three girls, Adelaide Fitzsimmons, Dorothy Nolte, and Dorothy Prager earn their basketball letters. VVe also made a good showing ill the class tournament when the girls were runners-up, and Gertrude Samuels won the foul shooting contest. John Ault was elected junior president, Sarah Morris, vice president, Dorothy lmhoff, secreta1'y, and Tom Hayes, treasurer, with Miss Perryman and Mr. Ihlenfeld as adviso1's. VVe started a very successful year by giving a. dance in October. Next came the event that all juniors look forward to- selecting and purchasing class rings Hlld pins. In order to make money for the prom, we decided to be different and gave a carnival instead of a play. lVhat a crowd! Nearly all the citizens of Viiarwood attended. The prom was held May 13th in the gym, which was very elaborately decorated as a ship. Several under-class girls, dressed pirates, served the banquet. VVe had for our menu: Spanish blood, fried parrot, Blue Beard's spuds, pearls and nuggets, Captain Kidd 's slush, sea-biscuits, rum, flavored icebergs, and sweetened bread. The pirate theme was carried throughout the program. NVe now had come to the year to which we had for so long looked for- ward, when we should be seniors. At the class election, Russell Gates was chosen president, Robert. Reister, vice president, Sara James, secretary, and Margaret Denney, treasurer. The advisors were Miss Perryman and Mr. Ihlenfeld. This year, as before, the boys excelled in athletics.
