Social Studies Department Mrs. Lambiotte eyes her social studies class with suspicion. .Stresses Current Events The Social Studies Department was extremely ac- tive in its courses this past year. Having acquired the S.C.A. room in the library, the department, under the skilltul guidance ot Mr. Luck, converted the room in- to an area ot storage tor maps, charts, and reterence material. Responsible tor the remodeling'were the wood shop students who telt they should move to bigger things atter building their tirst door-stops. This year the department showed the Screen News Digest, a documentary tilm series, in the audito- rium rather than in individual classrooms. This proved to be more protitable tor students and also tor our numerous, overworked teachers. Also this year, current events reports were given by students in all social studies classes. with the exceptions ot economics and sociology. The purpose ot the reports was to serve as an incentive tor students to read newspapers and maga- zines more thoroughly. As a direct result. one student claimed to have expanded his reading selections trom Dick Tracy to Brenda Starr and the Ann Landers column. New teachers in this department were Mrs. Eliza- beth Bailey, Mrs. Barbara Eriksson, and Mr. James Workman. Returning atter a three-year absence was Mrs. Ann Smola, while Miss Waverly l-lundley showed her qualities as a history teacher.
