FOCUS O . . . Ulrike Ulrike Schmidt, known to everyone as Ricky, is a YFU student from West Germany. Ricky is staying with the War- ren Weiss family in Lititz. When Ricky arrived she was surprised to see how friendly and open people are toward each other. She likes the idea that sixteen year olds are able to drive in America. German teenagers must be eighteen to obtain a license. The YFU program fYouth for Understand- ingl does not allow the foreign exchange students to drive during their stay. School districts do not exist in Ricky's homeland. The students are given the choice of which school they prefer to attend. A typical school week includes six days of school attendance. The second Saturday of every month is a vacation day for the students. Ricky is involved with the Glee Club, concert band, and orchestra. Her favor- ite foods are all the very fresh salads and fruits. 'iWith this short note I want to say hello and thank you to everybody in the Warwick High School. My stay for one year was a unique experience and was a postive and absolutely great one because of all the friendly, nice girls and boys and teachers here in school. My new friends helped me in all Hstrangef' situations, and I'm very sure that I will never forget you, the teachers, and our very funny senior year. - Ricky . . . Yvonne Yvonne Kruiswijk, an EFFS fEducational Foun- dation for Foreign Studyi student from I-Iolland, is staying with the Sheldon Murr family. Yvonne com- ments that the biggest differences between Holland and the United States are language and environ- ment. The houses in America seem to be bigger and the Lititz community is cleaner and newer. Yvonne likes the after school activities but does not enjoy following the same schedule every day. Home- work, especially English, presents Yvonne with the most trouble. Some of her favorite American foods include pizza and hamburgers. Yvonne's favorite activities include tennis, reading, and needlework. One year of high school in the United States, it sounded great. When the time got closer I wasnft sure anymore about myself. I didn't know what to expect of Lititz, school, and the people. But now I'm here and itfs great. Everybody is so nice to me. The first time is sometimes hard, but I'm sure when it's June I will feel sorry to leave. I want to say hi to everybody who were fand arel my friends. I will always remember you, War- wick, and good, old Lititz. If you are ever in the neighborhood be sure to visit mef' - Yvonne vv Wu.. 'M
