Hopefully, we will continue to grow. But for the moment let us reflect on these days. Remembering yesterday, experiencing today. And building for tomorrow. YESTERDAY. Our first day at Wartburg. We felt hopelessly lost in a sea Of strange faces and names. Moving from room to room. Feelings of awe and hesitation added to the confusion. Looking back, we remember hot September days, Reading on the fire escape, Outfly, Spoon River Anthology, an egg-cheese at Roy ' s, And our humanities seminar. Questions were raised, tough questions About who we are and what makes us that way. We attempted to bring into focus Some of the many opinions and lifestyles We had been exposed to. Independent study became a reality As we groped for ideas. Self-discipline took on new meaning. Certain days and events seemed so ' important yesterday. But more significant, it seems, were the people we met And the new opportunities afforded us. We began, some of us for the first time. To take a really hard look at oursleves. It was time to try on a new personality, Searching for an identity. Frantically reaching out to people. We exposed a part of ourselves. Sometimes it hurt. We were intimidated and stifled. Tensions flared But as we established lasting friendships Our confidence increased, our uncertainties dwindled. And yesterday faded as we began to experience today. TOP: Dr. K. D. Brincr, director of Chrysalis; BELOW: The Rev. Herman Diers. TOD A Y. Our new freedom brings responsibility. An event that yesterday had an audience of billions Is no longer unique, and sending men to the moon Loses some of its glamour. Instead, starvation, segregation and the population explosion Make daily headlines And we wonder if being number one Is worth bloated stomachs in India, Riots in Chicago, or overpopulation in China. Communication as an adult becomes a reality And we soon learn that no one has all the answers. Events and days lose their importance. Knowledge takes on new meaning. Twenty-three four-year-olds teach us Love and joy and happiness at Christmas Amid puppets and ice cream and beaming faces. Time has passed too quickly And we must soon begin to build for tomorrow. TOMORROW. We are forced to search for a role In a society we find far from ideal. The feelings of awe and hesitation we had yesterday Are magnified as we search for some certainty, some identity. The priorities we establish today will be tested. Some will be discarded, chalked up to experience. Confronted with new challenges and decisions, We will be forced to accept 60 new freshmen into our program, Choose a major and find the money to pay for next term. Yesterday we could only see people ' s differences, Soon we must work to accept them. As we leave the securities of Chrysalis behind. We will once again be immersed into that frightening sea. Of strange faces and names. — Pam Beck and Drew Flathmann CASTLE SINGERS ABOVE: Direaor Franklin Williams Dean Dietz Bruce Collmann Katherine Martens Karen Riebkes Sharon Zimmerman Richard Lynch Tom England Jill Smith Diane Abbe Dave Diekhoff Cheryl Kirschman Dixie Clefisch Jeff Pregler Gayle Kugath Donna Lechtenberg Janice Ottmar Joan Schon Rebecca Platte Alan Washburn Marcia Sundet Kurt _ Ullrich Cathy Wicderaenders Richard Beck Janet Miller Janell Johansen Robin Rice Gary Wendt Terri Shaver Mark Bighley Susan Klopfer Ellen Fisher Gayle Hartwig Jay Sandholm Duane Davis 48 Robert Blake Elizabeth Kapp Phil Tangc Mindy Barnes Jeff Jakober 49 KAPPA DELTA PI ABOVE, Front Row: Marcia Jaeger, Marilyn Stewart, Nancy Dettmann, Linda DeGree, Roxanne Brandt, Lynn Rockrohr, Annetta Larsen.
