(j ass J J rop )ec y 1960 It Is the evening of June 10, 1980. I find myself staring repeatedly out the windows of the Convention Hall of Old Point Warsaw, my recently acquired property. My expectation Is that a few of my former classmates from Warsaw High are visit¬ ing their old hometown and have promised to drop in to see me. A nervous glance at my watch tells me that nine o ' clock is just fifteen minutes away. Fifteen minutes I I wonder if they will still be the same old carefree crowd? Or will there be any distinct changes made in these last twenty years? There ' s a cabl Before I see anyone, I hear her. Jennie Lou France, now a famous gossip columnist for the Northern Neck News is coming up the walk, pen and pad in hand. Leave it to Jennie who always knows the latest gossip. In fact, her col¬ umn is headed Gossip - Before It Happens. Following Jennie is her hard-boiled boss, Frederick Barrack, editor-in-chief and sole owner of the multi-million dollar newspaper. Freddie attributes his tremendous success to the go get ' em scheme he developed from selling The Bulldog’s Bark. Shelby Sanders, my leading chorus girl, seats the first two distinguished guests. After a few years ' hard study at dancing school, Shelby ' s first ambition was to teach this famous leg art; however, after I told her Wallace Withers was the band Leader at my night club, she decided to come to work for me. Wallace reached the position of band leader due to his ability to move his nimble fingers with amazing speed over the strings of a banjo. Two of his newest composures are the jazzed up versions of Good Old Mountain Dew and Foggy Moun- :ain Rock. Suddenly, I hear a high soprano voice that could belong to none other than the former Jane Lang. Herbert Junior, the :hirteenth, get you fingers out of THAT man ' s coke! Jane keeps a firm grip on her FIFTEEN Herbert Juniors. I turn to see who THAT man with the coke could be, and to my surprise I find myself face to face with Harroll Wool- ird. Little Harroll, now weighing the sum total of 295 pounds, is explaining to Norman France some of the finer techniques : f driving. Norman is now a driver of Greyhound Buses. Little Harroll has had a lot of experience in the driving field; most d f it was acquired on Main Street in Warsaw. We can hardly wait to see Mrs. Galavan, the former Judy Peyton. Miss Peyton, after seeing the movie Auntie Mamie,” decided that was the type of life tor her. She acquired quite a bit of acting experience in two of the Senior Class plays, so • he became quite a success in Hollywood. Since her fifth divorce, she has decided to play the field, the same old Judy. Among all the fine people in the night club, there is one who slipped in quietly as she always seemed to do. Carole Tal- .ent is now working as a silent disk jockey at the local radio station. Her employer thrills at her ability and her cooperation. Melvin Mozingo enters, followed by his two secretaries, Gloria Hynson and Mary McKenney. Melvin is now chairman of :he school improvement committee. He has accomplished two means of improvement in all schools. One is to do away with he age-old custom of girls first in the lunch line. The second is to completely abolish the poetry memorizing as a punish- nent for being late for classes. Jimmy Davis is talking to Oscar Delano about improving operations of the F. F. A. Jimmy is now teaching agriculture at VHS and running a pig farm in his spare time. Bertha Lou has been a big help to Jimmy in getting this project started. Oscar is now a worker in Washington, D. C. His duties include managing sixteen pretty blond government clerks. Wayne Oliff just parked his bicycle outside. He ' s still complaining that he has No Wheels.” Wayne is now a recording mist for Stuck Records. His newest release is I Go Ape, under the name of King Kong. The former Miss Mary Ogle Tayloe enters and everyone turns to stare at the uniform that she is wearing. Shortly after her mival at business school, she decided it to be too dull, and after an encounter with a few sailors, she joined the WAVES, lut, sadly she states that she saw more sailors BEFORE she joined their branch of service. So she returned to marry Tom and ettled down to a nice quiet life, but still her favorite song is Anchors Aweigh. Harvey Hinson is working as a commercial artist for Bell Telephone Company.” He acclaimed national fame with the logan known only as Tingle, Tingle, Tingle, with Bell. Mrs. Winston Rice known to us as Shirley Wilkins is now teaching the first grade at Warsaw. She has formed a club known is Marriage Anonymous. ' Some of her most avid members are Mrs. Berkley Taylor, the former Miss Shirley Webb, and Mrs. lilly Boyd, the former Miss Agnes Harper. They all agree that young marriages are the answers. Barbara Smith has been teaching jujitsu to Ann Hall. Ann, it seems, became quite successful as a model for Johnson ' s laby Products. Some of the boys, however, can ' t distinguish between the two different kinds of babies and so Ann has had to ake some extra precautions. Barbara, being a gym teacher, offered to help her with her delightful problem. Harold Hinson is a distinguished poet. His works have been published for years in the leading newspapers across the coun- ry. There is one difference between Harold and the other poets. All his poems are entitled simply Betty. Thomas Sabotka is working In cooperation with Clarence Harper, Jr. He ' s running a smuggling racket, getting candy bars hrough to the Little Orphans Home. Tommy and Clarence have been in this racket for over a year now, and they are doing ' ery well. Everyone is returning to the Ballroom, and I gaze fondly at my former classmates and friends. It ' s been great seeing hem again, the same good, carefree, friendly group. May life continue to be kind to them until we meet again sometime, omewhere!
