KNOTTS, SUPERINTENDENT 44: e--- P-4 Zz It is with pleasure that we review ,the school year which is so :J well described in this 19514 edition of THE WARRIOR. N There are so many good things which I can think of that have made our school more meaningful. Two things in particular are the fine job done by the students in our school government, and the work .done in our school assemblies. When we learn to become a part of our school team, the type of school to which we go improves. My sincere greetings to each of you. MR. The Student Council started its yearly duties even before the school year began. The Student Council met early August and planned their program for the 1953-Sh school year. They scheduled an activity period for three days a week. A Christmas time the Student Council sponsored a Christmas card sale. A Christmas party was sponsored by the Student Council. Two conventions were held this year. Warrenton was represented at both meetings of the Region III Student Council. This spring the Student Council supervised the constitution. Our new 195h-53 officers attended the Student Council conference in Hay. The Student Council also planned and or- ganized all the eighteen Student Body assembly programs. We survived this with the help of our advisors, Mr. Steck and Mrs. Gibson. This was a very exciting year and we all looked forward to our sophomore year. In 1951 the class of 'Sh still outnumbered the oth r classes in total enrollment, although there were several arrivals and departures during the year. Two dances were held that year which were well-attend- ed and enjoyed. The Valentine Heart Hop was held on February'15th. A drawing was held to determine who would be King and Queen of Hearts. Those elected were Pat Erickson and Bob Sickler, both members of our class. In 1952 we began our junior year as ambitious students, now very proud of our new role as upperclassmen. The Junior-Senior Banquet was the big event of the year. This called for much planning and work, for we had to earn money for coming events by holding many dances and food sales, and by so soing we built up our treasury to meet the needs. With the help and patience of Mr. Hilley and Mrs. Gibson, our advisor, and with a lot of hard work, we gave the Junior class plays, nIt's A Great Life.M On May fifteenth the Junior-Senior Banquet was success- fully presented to the graduating seniors. Following an excellent dinner at the Marquee, everyone left for the gymnasium to take part in the fun. This year was most successful. Nineteen fifty-three -- the first event of this year was a dance, and the big event was the biggest of events -- the Christmas Ball. This was to raise money for our trip to Salem in May and for commencement. Another successful dance was the Valentine Dance at which a King and Queen of Hearts were elected. Candidates were select- ed from each class. The senior candidates were Rose Stilwell and Charles Bergerson, but the junior class had more votes, so their can- didates, Ann Davis and Dick Maize, were crowned to reign over the dance. We also presented our Senior Class Play, WGirl Shy,n which was a great success, with a willing cast and help of Mr. Garwood, our director, and Mrs. Gibson, our class advisor. we are grateful to Mrs. Gibson for all the fine help she has given the class during the past four years. She was always on hand when her assistance was needed, and as an advisor she is Ntops.W -----and now, in June, comes the big week of Commencement when we shall receive our diplomas and leave the halls of Warrenton High forever. Truly our years have been full of fu and hard work and leanr ing, too, and we shall always be proud to call ourselves alurni oflhxr- enton High School Class of l9Sh! The final activity of the Junior Class was the annual banquet held at the John Jacob Astor Hotel Banquet Room in Astoria on May the seventh. The theme of the Prom was STRANGER IN PARADISE. Under the reign of these three girls the Prom was a big success. Garwood, met during one period of the school day this year, compared with two periods last year. Consequently there were fewer students able to participate, even though they might be interested. The chorus made several appearances during the schaol year. The first program was presented to the student body at a meeting on October 15, 1953. The high spot of the first semester was the annual Christmas concert which was present- ed on the afternoon of Sunday, December 20. The climax of the year's activities was the annual spring concert. This was held later than ever before in order that it would not interfere with other spring activi- ties. The program was given to the public at the Grade Schllo Auditorium during the last week of May. A mixed octet which included Claudia Sherrelg Esther Buford, Judy Johanson, Virginia Wofford, Keith Mendenhall, Victor Graham and Wesley Shultz, all seniors, presented three numbers at the graduation exercises on the evening of June 39 7 1' A vm w i-Wg s Av iff, a.: fi g . af: 6. . . The annual concert was presented to the grade school during the morning of February eighteenth, and to the public in the evening. Sev- eral members of the band played solos during the program. The band participated in the Armistice Day parade in Astoria on November ll,l9S3, and was the only band to play for the dedication cere- monies at Fort Clatsop immediately after the parade. The oand travelled to Tillamook, Thursday, April eighth, to par- ticipate in a two county music festival. During the day individual bands played for criticism, and a concert was given in the evening for the pub- lic.
