Ambition: Lineman on a wireless Q ' Q G O O Cyan ,Maier In the fall of n1neteen hundred forty nine, fifty six scared and bewildered freshmen entered the new Warrenton High School halls w1th a loud clank and clammer, but soon were quieted down by the fierce ini tiation Wsponsoredn by the sophomore class After thus being put in their places, they began their high school life by electing class off icers who were Pres , Wallace Reed, Vice Pres , Gene Martin, Secy , Nancy Lacey, Treas , Susan Hopkins With much help from the class ad visors, Mr Geil and Mrs Bear, the class sponsored a Backward Dance to raise funds The freshman year was most interestlng, and the fall of 1950 found forty three eager sophomores This year, being our sophomore year, we were now accustomed to school we began taking our turn in school activities w1th the initi ation of the new freshmen After this event was over, we settled down to the many activities of the class and student body Our advisors, Mr Guttridge and Mrs Willis, kept us in tow, and we elected our class officers Pres , Don Hansen, Vice Pres , Mary Jo Chase Secy , Donna Talfourd, Treas , Susan Hopkins, and Sgt at-Arms, Darwin Ehrlich now very proud of our new role as upperclassmen The Junior Senior Banquet was the big event of the year This called for much planning and work, for we had to earn money for the coming events The Banquet is a traditional activity held in the spr1ng followed by the Junior Senior Prom By taking over the candy booth and holding many dances and food sales, we built up our treasury to meet the needs With the help and patience of Mr. Guttridge and Miss Waite, our advisors, and with lots of hard work, we gave the Junior Class Play, M BRIDE FOR THE GROOM The officers for the Junior year were: Pres , Viola Gramson, the successor of Luella McGregory, Vice Pres , LeRoy Dunn, Secy , Mary Jo Chase, Treas , Susan Hopkins, Sgts at-Arms, Correne Bergin and Dick Hansen The year was most successful In the year 1952, we entered again with thirty eight sharp, ani mated, and eager seniors This being our last year, we got rmght down to work, and elected our class officers who are: Pres , LeRoy Dunn, Vice Pres , David Cochran, Secy., Mary Harrod, Treas , Susan Hopkins, Sgt at-Arms, Doug MacWilliams The first event of this year was a dance, and the big event- the Christmas Ball All this to raise the money for the Sen1or Skip Day and Commencement. we also had a Senior Class Play, TH ABSENT MINDED BRIDEGROOM, which was a great success with a willing castzud the help of Miss Waite, our advisor. She told me that I could find out about my classmates from a Hollywood gossip columnist named Fern Gray I rushed right down and there she was, talking on one of her seventy nine telephones After a whie I got her to myself and she turned from a gossip to a psychic She told me that LeRoy Dunn was now pla ing football for the Los Angeles Rams. Itflll ed my heart wlth sadness when she told me Nancy Hitchman had become a psychiatrist at San Quentin As yet she is single for she hasn't met a conv1ct with money She said Carolyn Price and Barbara Herglund are famous beauticlans but prefer working on men You ca find Luella Dunn in a corner of Carolyn's or Barbara's beauty salon with a spot reducer. Donna Talfourd was engaged to marry a multi mill1oniare but she stood hmm up at the alter w1th the excuse that she could never love a yone else but her first boyfriend, Dick Maize They now own a riding academy in San Fernando Valley. Fern sald that Viola Gramson is now running as the first woman President of the United States. Mary Harrod has become a cigarrette g1rl at the Stork Club in New York was runner up for Mr Breadbasket The Reverend Mr. Kerr was holdlng a revival meeting at Satch Gronnel's Gambling Casino. I just looked out the window and saw Eddie Smotherman chasing a redhead from Port- land. Miss Marilyn Moffat is try1ng to squeeze out Marilyn Monroe, but the sand shifted to the wrong end I was told I could flnd Arna Doney and Helen Sleutel working as chorus girls in the Grandpa Godfrey show. Mary Jo Chase and Sue Sells were nurses at the Mercy Hospital and the last patient they had cared for died of a broken heart Tom my Ferguson and Gene Watson have just signed a contract with the House of David basketball team David Cochran was teaching at an institu tion for the mentally ill Norman Johnsen was a butler at the Gene Martin mansion Wallace Reed has married Betty Jo Hale and they prac tice the observation, 'Cheaper by the Dozen.W Gerald Black is farming in Africa. I was surprised to hear that Douglas MacW1llians was a scientist and had just discovered how to eat and keep thin Bonnie Brunsdon and Laverne Davis are college professors. Luella McGregory isin the hospital suffering from larangitis which she acquired yelling at her brood Eugene Miller has been graduated from carpentry school and is st1ll waitlng for his first job. Their first activity was the Ha1lowe'en Dance held October 2hth in the Grade School Auditorium Ihe room was gaily decorated in true witch fashlon with lighted pumpkins and bales of hay lending atnosphere to the occasion Doughnuts and apple cider were served 'Ihe Junior Class Play, IT'S A GREAT LIFE, was presented to the public during Thanksgiving Week A special afternoon performance was also During the spring quarter the juniors took overthe candy booth and did an able job of supplying the student body with pop and candy On May the fifteenth, the Junior Senior Banquet was successfully pre- sented to the graduating seniors. We had both volleyball and basketball tournaments be- tween the different classes. In January the girls held a playday here. We invited seven other schools to participate with us in a volleyball tournament. On March first, the Tillamook G. A. A. invited us to their play- day , whidm was conducted much the same as ours. They put on entertain- ment and served us beverage to go with the sack lunches that the girls took th8Re 'Ihe girls can een: letters by participating :Ln each year's activi- ties. A point system has been set up so that after earning a diamond- shaped letter, a five inch letter, and a seven inch letter, the girls are awarded a white sweater. All in all, it's a super club. We have had fun and appreciated all the help we have received from Miss Thien, whom we want to thank for helping us organize G. A. A. 33 s an G.H.H. ON PARADE! It's been a great and a booming year for the Warrenton band, con ducted by Hr Sam McCoy The band played at football games, and helped greatly to llft the A concert was given in February, with a large and well satisfied audience attending The selections ranged from popular to seml class- ical During the basketball tournament the band traveled to Tillamook It was a time of excit ment and gaiety, and not an lnstrument was laid down until the final whistle. Yes, it's been a great year, whether on the football field or on the stage Some things may fade away, but the fun and satisfaction we de rived from band sessions will r main forever. Special guests were the speaker, Leonard Younce, and Gilbert Bergerson. Another dance was then held to raise funds for the annual banquet. The Annual Letterman's Club Banquet was heldlhrch 13th at the Crab Pot Banquet Room.
