With the theme Warriors Go To The Movies”, Uniquesness was the key and par- ticipation was greater than it has ever been. The race for spirit points was extremely close. The days went as follows: Monday - Concert T-Shirt Day Tuesday - Stuffed Animal Day Wednesday - Beach Bum Day Thursday - Punk Rock Day Friday - Red and White Day We had a pep assembly the last hour of the day and floats were judged at the buildings where they were made as rain kept us from having a parade. The first place float went to the Senior class for their float of Jaws III”, second place went to the Sophomores King Kong” float, third place went to the Junior class float Hal- loween III”, and last place went to the Fresh- men float E. T.” A tight race for points went back and forth between the Seniors and the Freshmen. But the race was broken at the pep assembly when the Seniors won the Spirit Jug and came in first place followed by the Freshmen class in second, the Sophomores in third, and the Junior class took fourth place. To The Movies Lisa Bakameyer Michelle Schaumberg Babette Eberhart Paula Bracht Julie Hasenkamp Janet McVey Monique Scheer Traci Rowe It was a cold and dreary night October 21, but that didn't seem to stop the excitement of the 1983-84 Homecoming.- To start off, the queen coronation was held in the Jr. High gym along with decorations for the dance. Michelle Schaumberg, escorted by Bruce Branson, was this years 1983-84 Homecoming Queen. At 7:30 our Warriors played a rough game in the fog and rain. Along with these elements the team had an unfortunate score of 12-0, against the Troy Trojans. Despite all the wetness of the night and the loss of the game everyone had a good time afterwards dancing to the sound of Sugar Creek. A Star Is Born Queen” Michelle Schaumberg Annie What has 41 singing people dressed in pajamas? The musical The Pajama Game” of course! The musical was a love story-comedy set in a pajama factory. The story opens with a new superintendent coming to work at the Sleep Tite pajama factory, named Sid Sorokin. A girl who works there. Babe Williams, falls in love with him, but she doesn’t want anyone to know. In the mean time the work- ers want a seven and half cent raise, but the funds are not there. So Sid takes the accountant, Gladys Hutchkiss, out and takes the keys away from her and opens the ledger up and finds that the boss, Mr.Hasler, has covered up the exact amount that the workers would need for their raise. All this made for a very enjoyable musical to watch. The main characters were: Sid Sorokin-Barry Conway, Babe Williams- Kathy Brock, Vernon Hines-Chuck Newburry, Gladys Hutchkiss-Toni Arteaga, Prez-Tom Ebbesmeyer, Mabel-Karen Martin, Hasler- Scott Prinster. The Pajama Game k Barnwarming The 1983 Barnwarming was held on December 9, the dance was from 8 -12. Coronation was at 9:00. Renegade played this year and everyone enjoyed themselves. Queen-King 83-84 Tammy Harrell - Jim Raterman Dede Tesson - Neal Roetemeyei Tammy Harrell - Randy Brand I’m Not Crazy . . . Really!!! The Cloisters is a rest home for people with mental problems which is run by Dr. Emmett and his assistant Miss Wilhelmina. The people who already live there are: Florence, who thinks that she has a child is really a doll; Hannibal, who thinks he can play the violin very well but he really can't; Fairy Mae, who thinks she is very beautiful, but she is really homely; Jeffrey, who thinks he has a huge scar on his cheek, but he really doesn’t; and Miss Paddy, who decided to quit talking and spends her time painting seascapes, which she thinks are very good but really aren’t. When the story opens these five are waiting the arrival of a new patient, Mrs. Ethel Savage. Her step children have placed her there because she carries a teddy bear, and is spending the family fortune which she inherited from her husband. The Savages, Titus, Lily Belle, and Samuel, are sent on pointless searches by their stepmother until they are exposed as the empty fools they really are. This play ends with Mrs. Savage leaving the institution, again in control of her money. The audience is left knowing how narrow the difference is between those inside and those outside of institutional walls. This made for a warm, humorous and sensitive play. The characters were: Florence- Kerri Hanebrink, Hannibal- Clifford Tucker, Fairy Mae- Katy Pieper, Jeffrey- Scott Prinster, Mrs. Paddy- Amy Bruen- derman, Titus- Matt Hake, Samuel- Kevin Watson, Lily Belle- Anne Axline, Ethel- Kathy Stone, Miss Wilhelmina- Kaye Bradshaw, Dr. Emmett- Greg Hileendorf. The junior high gym was transformed into a wonderland by the junior class Friday afternoon. The students worked extra hard all day putting up decorations that would resemble the theme for Prom, which was Moon River. The dance was held from 8 p.m. until 12 a.m., and by 9, everyone was anxiously awaiting the coronation, which took place at 9:30. There was tension in the air as the envelope that was to reveal the King and Queen was finally opened. The announce- ment finally came that the 1984 Prom King and Queen were Todd Brewer and Lisa Brengle. As soon as this was an- nounced, the lights were dimmed and the King and Queen, with their court, swayed slowly to the music. The music this year for Prom was provided by Whiskey River, and refreshments were served by underclassmen. by Rhonda Schaefer Creates A Memory ORGANIZATIONS The Creators In the beginning there were pictures to take, thoughts to find, ideas to build on and a book to create. As time progressed so did the ideas and the thoughts of the class. Pictures were taken, stories were written and layouts designed. As the year closed so did the book. In the end It was finished (yeah) and it was called, These Are the Days of Our Lives. 96 Who’s Doing Layout Deadlines! It seems as soon as one deadline is met another one is approaching. The newspaper staff keeps very busy. They are responsible for laying out the Toma- hawk and Peeping Tom. That means writing articles, drawing artwork, taking pictures, developing and printing the pictures and then making them all fit together. Be- sides publishing these papers the staff reads the daily announcements and changes the marquee in front of school. With all this work the newspaper succeeded in meeting their deadlines and should be complimented for doing a very fine job. Keepin Busy The Student Council Body which reigns for the school year of 1984-85 was installed last Spring and is com- posed of fifteen members. The main purpose of this group is to represent the ideas and suggestions of stu- dents to the administration. Be- sides this, however, they engage in other activities for the benefit of the students. Their Christmas spirit came forth when they obtained and decorated a Christmas tree for the library. On Valentine’s Day, they busied themselves selling red and white carnations to raise money for a scholarship which will be awarded to a Senior. Their civic duty was shown by the effort put forth in recruiting students for the Red Cross Blood Drive which was held in March. A total of seventy-two students and teachers participated. They also sponsored a scholar quiz in which any student could par- ticipate and see just how smart they really are. 97 Woodworking For Contest The Industrial Arts Club began the year with making name plates for the new faculty members. April was a very busy month for the IA members. They began by going on a field trip to the AB Chance Company. On April 25 many members attended the district contest. The group also presented IA jackets to Mr. Deutch and Mr. Dreyer and made them honorary members. This year Art Club sold handmade ceramic ornaments at Christmas time as their money making project. Weeks be- fore homecoming Art Club members could be found busy at work painting movie signs for the doors of the high school classrooms. On The Road Again Members of the Vocational Technical Group leav- ing to further their education at Four Rivers Area Vocational in Washington. Missouri. This is a school funded program whereby a group of interested students are selected by a committee and submitted to the Technical School for approval of admission. If accepted, they learn a skill, trade, or hands on experience in a field of their interest. This affords them the opportunity to more fully evaluate the ca- reer they might choose upon graduation from high school. Hard At Work Students in cooperative occupational education are af- forded the opportunity to work at a job which they are interested in while attending school. This program is promoted through the cooperation of the local business merchants who employ students and allow them to gain experience in today’s business world. It also develops character and confidence in themselves and their abilities for future jobs. Do ... Ra ... Mi Both concert and treble choir had many performances this year. At the be- ginning of the year they started working on music for the fall concert. Even during this time concert choir was working on the Messiah for the Christmas concert. In March concert choir and several small ensembles went to contest in Mexico. Concert choir received a 2” rating but were only one point away from a I”. The year was ended by a concert in mid May and a short performance at baccalaureate by concert choir. Act On Drama for 1983-84 was a composite of theatre-related activities. Students performed for The Variety Show, read stories for kinder- garten and elementary, and presented one-act plays. They also participated in The Pajama Game and The Curious Savage. The two most important one acts this year were Glendenna’s Dilemna” (performed for elementary) the story of a dragon with a problem- and The Trial of Amanda Marie Locks or How Goldilocks Con- tempts the Court” (performed for Jr. High. The record of our drama students was excellent in Speech Contests again this year. Enthusiasm and talent were evident in the successful perfor- mances from drama. Success!! Success!! Success!! SUCCESS!! SUCCESS!! SUCCESS!! Warrenton students entered 4 speech contests this year. They won 9 1st place medals, 8 2nd place medals, 7 3rd place medals, 9 4th place medals, 2 6th place medals. At the district speech contest they competed against 26 schools in seven categories. They returned triumphantly winning I 8th place, I 7th place medal, 2 5th place medals, and 2 4th place medals. Ms. Brandes and students organized a very successful speech contest here, which Warrenton Speech Contestants won hands down. Speech club members worked the concession stand at Jr. High ball games to earn money to pay for our contest and contest fees. President- Toni Arteaga, Secretary- Becky Breeden, Treasurer- Mary Howald, and Sponsor- Mrs. Nolkemper. We Got That Spirit!!! Everybody’s Crazy About The Sharp Dressed Girls The 1983-84 Poms and Flag girls had a full sched- ule this year, thinking of new ideas and trying them at performances. 7:00 a.m. became, the en- emy. Poms getting new uniforms retired the shorts and sweaters for white button down shirts, vests and skirts. Some routines were to P.Y.T., Beat It and the finale. Sharp Dressed Man. Flags also received new uniforms, they retired their shorts for skirts and boots. Flags went to competitions with band and both received recog- nition. Though the year was long and rough the War- rior Flag and Pom girls are pretty tough. 103 The Warriors Go Marching On The band started the marching season by having a week of band camp during the last week in July. The purpose of band camp was to learn the show so it would be ready for the first football game and competition. They also learned parade marching so they could participate in the fair parade. The first competition was held at Washington. The band placed third in field competition. The final competition was Greater St. Louis held at Lindenwood. The band didn’t place very well, but they were up against some very tough competition. The band ended their season with some- thing new, they traveled to Montgomery City with the football team and performed during half time. The band also gave a surprise performance at half time of a basketball game to show off their new uniforms. At the end of the football season the band began working on Christmas concert music. The Christmas concert went really well. At semester the band tried something new. The band was divided into two groups. The concert rehearsed first hour and the wind ensemble rehearsed fifth hour. The band gave its first performance in its divided groups in March. At the May concert the senior band members and their parents were honored. The band closed the year by performing at graduation. 104 Math Club: The Math Club is the club for the dubious student. One who is looking for scholarly brother- hood, intellectual stimulation and an occasional bag of Doritos. In Math Club, the activities in- cluded practice for scholar quiz or a written five question test sent out by the Missouri Mathematics League. The Math Club sponsored groups to the T.E.A.M.S. competition at Mizzou, the College Bowl at E.C.C. and the members participated in the Scholar Quiz at E.C.C. where the team took 106 Foreign Exchange Student Inducted National Honor Society has a for- mal initiation every year, and this year inducted twenty-six new members. This year the club held a special meeting to initiate an honorary member, Stefanie Hoppe, a foreign exchange student from Germany, was inducted into the club because of her scholastic ability. A field trip is taken every spring, and this year the club spent the day at the zoo and had a picnic. Turn About Day The Future Teachers of America were involved with many activities this year, such as Student Teaching, The Buddy Sys- tem, and Turnabout Day. On April 18, the organization took a fieldtrip to the United Cerabal Palsy Institute in University City. They ended the year with their annual picnic at Dyer Park. The Foreign Language Club started the year by selling candy, sweat shirts, and pins for their money making project. On May 9th they took a field trip to Westport Playhouse and ate at Casa Gallardo’s. At the end of the year they held a Mille Bornes tournament and a picnic. Mille Bornes? FF And FHA’ers Another year has gone by another Barnwarning done, boy didn’t they have a whole lot of fun. Looking Forward To A Comeback The Varsity Warriors started their season with much spirit and enthusiasm. They were excited be- cause coach Tom Hilbert had em- ployed a new offense and the school had employed a new coach, Greg Hennefent. Injuries played an important roll in the Warriors disappointing sea- son. Early in the year Scott Costello had a collision with Jim Meier which resulted in a broken bone in his wrist. This forced the Big Red to use sophomore quarterback Dale Skin- ner. He did well and gave the War- rior’s future a good outlook. Even though they ended the sea- son with a 1-9 record, they gained very much. With much of the start- ing team returning next year the Warriors are looking forward to a comeback. They’re loyal and honest, they show you they care. They help with the problems, Protect you from your fears, they lend a listening ear, and a shoulder for tears. They tell their thoughts and feelings, take time to hear yours, too. They miss you when your gone, and love you when your around, They laugh with you when you’re up, and cry with you when your down. They miss you when your gone, and love you when your around. They try to make you happy, they always do their best. They want you to understand that you're better than the rest. Friendship is a two-way street. But when the street only goes one way, the love is received and not given, and your best friends goes away. ’Cuz best friends don’t stay forever if you keep the love you should send, you have to give a little, Or your closest friendship will end.
