WARREN CO. R-lll HIGH SCHOOL WARRENTON, MISSOURI L. to R. FRONT: Danny Bornamann, Coach Flamank, Tom Clarke. BACK: Jon Blackwood, Cary Leek, John Mc- Cann, Danny Jaspering, Steve Pauk, Randy Haymes, Carl Morhaus, Rich Morhaus, Dale Gerard, Russell Vahle, and Mike Garland. This year the Warriors have shown what it takes to be champions; ability, hard work, and a desire. They took this trio and molded it into a drive; a spirited drive which led them between eighth and fifth place in the state. It started with the Regional Tournament at Bowling Green. The Warrious swept past Montgomery City on their opening game by 72--61. Bowling Green gave the Big Red a struggle in their 56--54 win. The Trojans of Troy toppled 80--70 in a closer game than the score indicates. Then in the final and Regional Championship game, the Warriors defeated Clopton by a decisive score of 64--40. Thus gaining the championship, the Warriors went on to play Palmyra at Monroe City. It was an extremely close game with each team trading the score by one or two points. But with the final buzzer, the Warriors had won 54--50. Hermann was the next team and a very formidable opponent. The Warriors started off strong, but lost by two points 46--48. Thus came the close of the season. The Warriors defeated and yet, as always, displayed the qual- ity of the true athlete, sportsmanship; humble in victory, gracious in defeat. Our heartiest thanks to Coach George Flamank, who did a brilliant coaching job, and the Warrenton Warriors. 2 Administration and Faculty--4 Working Cooperative In the ninth year of his services to our school, we proudly dedicate the 1968 WAHISHO to a man, who is more than a friend to all of us. A man who has given our school his gift of enthusiasm and hope. Our Own— Mr. Wendell Roehrs Smiling Efficient Team 5 WILLIAM A. HOPE SUPERINTENDENT We, the people in this district, state and United States, must strive for better educa- tion. The future belongs to those who believe in it enough to sacrifice for it and to invest in it, and where is society to find more certain returns than in high quality edu- cation? Where is economic and social stagnation more certain than among the people willing to settle for second class education? The truth of the twentieth century is that machines can, and will increasingly, reduce not only the hands, but the minds of men to useless or at best trivial instruments, un- less we can tend effectively to the business of unlocking the potential of each child to its maximum. I like to think that the 'upward reach' of education is inseparable from the aspirations and goals of its people. I believe both reflect and compliment each other. Most in- formed observers tell us that it is more and more a fact that the economic and cul- tural progress of our community, state and nation depend upon the strength of educa- tion. 6 L. to R. CHEERLEADERS 23 JUNIOR VARSITY CHEERLEADERS 1967-68 was the first year W.H.S. had a squad of Junior Var- sity Cheerleaders. The girls have to be Freshmen or Sopho- mores to become a Junior Varsity Cheerleader. This year the captain is Dianna Jones and the co-captain is Linda Fleer; they are both Sophomores. The rest of the cheerleaders are: Gail Dreyer and Patty Fields, Sophomores; Toni Anderson and Gail Zuroweste, Freshmen. Some of the reasons for having another squad of cheerleaders is to make less work for the one set of cheerleaders, and to give support to our Freshmen team. By having Junior Varsity Cheerleaders, as well as Varsity Cheerleaders, our school is represented at every game. Nothing like being on time! STUDENT COUNCIL This year our Student Council has had the prestige of being Conference Student Council President of East Mis- souri Conference, which has distinguished Warrenton among the other conference schools as a leader. The council has progressed this year at a steady pace. A few of the new projects were: the new basketball pro- grams, sponsorship of assemblies and set up future assemblies, purchase of new ping pong tables and two Student Exchange days within the Conference. As you can see, this year the Student Council has moved forward and will continue to do so. In the past, printing of the TOMA- HAWK meant a lot of extra hard work after it was put on stencil. This year we decided to streamline the paper by having it printed by the Miller Press in Washington, Missouri. We feel that this change over has made an im provement in the previous methods of publishing the TOMAHAWK. 38 Taking in the money!! The Stage band performed for our own stu- dents and also traveled to Montgomery City to entertain their students. Marching band and concert band successfully presented another type of musical experience for their members and entertainment for our students. Six specialized instructors make up its faculty who subscribe to the philosophy that the basic function of the school is the guidance of every student to have those living and learning experiences that will enable him to behave as a responsible, considerate, con- tributing citizen at every stage of his development. This basic function implies that learning deals with both individual and group living. More opportunities for educational growth are added each year as the school strives for a balanced program which aims to develop citizens who will be competent in terms of today's conditions and problems and who will realize that they are expected to be competent in the face of a future that will bring change in many phases of living. All look with confidence upon the venture of the 1967-68 eighth grade into ninth grade status. 100 SECRETARY I OLA EVANS EACULTY L. to R. SPORTS The most outstanding characteristic of the football team was their come back defense and strong running backs. No team was able to score in the second half against them. This team was the strongest and largest Warrenton has ever had in the Junior High. The 7th grade basketball team has talent and shows a lot of promise for the future. Their season record was no doubt hampered by an injury received by one of the starters early in the season. We are looking forward to hav- ing some good seasons out of these young Warriors. The 8th grade basketball team improved considerably from last years slow season. They won five games this year, which isn't bad for a young team. These boys will continue to improve and develop someday into a fine ball club. We are looking forward to a good season for both 7th and 8th grade in track. We have a lot of balance in the 8th grade and some fine runners in the 7th. The 8th grade boys have won the conference the past two years and we are hoping for a repeated performance this year. I have found some very dedicated boys in both grades which has made it a pleasurable coaching experience. I hope they will continue to exhibit this fine quality. Coach Bracht 102 L. to R.
