Twenty-seven AFS students spent a weekend at Warrensburg-Latham from March 30—April 1. They arrived late Friday morning, ate lunch and attended classes with their host students. Friday night the FHA sponsored a disco dance which was attended by the AFS visitors and members of W-L AFS club. On Sat- urday morning the AFS'ers met in the gym for fun and games, which included volleyball, badminton, and basketball. In the afternoon, the club toured Caterpillar and then visited Hickory Point Mall. That evening, all at- tended a party at the Warrensburg Illinois Park pavil- lion. After church Sunday morning, the AFS'ers had a potluck in the cafeteria, and enjoyed a talent show before returning home. 8

Cathy Reyes is a native of Quito, Ecuador. She lived with the Rick Johnson family. Cathy says, I really enjoyed the year in the U.S. School in Ecuador is more difficult but Warrensburg has much more fun. The best thing in America is the food and the worst is the winter weather. Cathy's hobbies are volleyball, tennis, roller skating, motorcycling and traveling. She plans to study medicine. Fereshteh Jalayer, affec- tionately known as Fresca, came to WLHS from Tehran, Iran. She says, I'm very glad I came to the United States. I learned a lot and met many nice people. The schools in the U.S. are easier. I liked best go- ing to the games and to prom. I love WLHS and enjoyed every- body. They were very nice to me and I hope someday to come back and see everybody again. Fereshteh lived with the Lou Barnes family. Vicky Palmer went to Istan- bul, Turkey through the Ameri- cans Abroad program. Vicky says, The first half of the sum- mer, I lived with the Nural La- kim family on the European side of Turkey. The last half I lived on the Asian side with the Ke- mal Basaran family. The hard- est things to get used to were the language and eating—four times a day! Rikki Johnson went to Columbia. She says, My summer in Pop- ayan, Columbia is one that I will never forget. AFS is a great orga- nization in which you can learn about other people, their customs, and lifestyles. I lived with the Cesar Obandi family. I had five sis- ters and one brother. My father was an M.D. and my mother owned and operated a small gift shop. The thing I enjoyed most was the warmth and friendliness of the people. They always went out of their way to stop and say hello. I hope that the Americans Abroad students in the years to come will have an experience that was as great as mine.
