■ i Warreiisburg-Latham High School CARDINAL Volume 56 The Times of Your Life Good morning yesterday, You wake up and time has slipped away, And suddenly it's hard to find the memories you left behind, Remember, do you remember . . . The laughter and the tears, The shadows of misty yesteryears, The good times and the bad you've seen And all the others in between, Remember, do you remember the times of your life . . . 2 Reach back for the joy and the sorrow, Put them away in your mind, For mem'ries are time that you borrow To spend when you get to tomorrow . . . Here comes the setting sun, The seasons are passing one by one So gather moments while you may, Collect the dreams you dream today, Remember—will you remember the times of your life . . . 3 First Row, Left to Right: Sharon Kenney, Vicky Palmer, Natalie Harrell, Jan Janvrin, Becky Yokley, Julie Brown, Dennette Russell, Leanne Blasmgame, Jeanme Bode, Leslie Barnes, Fereshteh Jalayer, Cathy Reyes, Kathy Williams, Rikki Johnson, Mrs. Eisen- barth, sponsor. Cathy says, I really enjoyed the year in the U.S. School in Ecuador is more difficult but Warrensburg has much more fun. The best thing in America is the food and the worst is the winter weather. Cathy's hobbies are volleyball, tennis, roller skating, motorcycling and traveling. She plans to study medicine. Fereshteh Jalayer, affec- tionately known as Fresca, came to WLHS from Tehran, Iran. She says, I'm very glad I came to the United States. I learned a lot and met many nice people. The schools in the U.S. are easier. I liked best go- ing to the games and to prom. I love WLHS and enjoyed every- body. They were very nice to me and I hope someday to come back and see everybody again. Fereshteh lived with the Lou Barnes family. Vicky Palmer went to Istan- bul, Turkey through the Ameri- cans Abroad program. Vicky says, The first half of the sum- mer, I lived with the Nural La- kim family on the European side of Turkey. The last half I lived on the Asian side with the Ke- mal Basaran family. The hard- est things to get used to were the language and eating—four times a day! Rikki Johnson went to Columbia. She says, My summer in Pop- ayan, Columbia is one that I will never forget. AFS is a great orga- nization in which you can learn about other people, their customs, and lifestyles. I lived with the Cesar Obandi family. I had five sis- ters and one brother. My father was an M.D. and my mother owned and operated a small gift shop. The thing I enjoyed most was the warmth and friendliness of the people. They always went out of their way to stop and say hello. I hope that the Americans Abroad students in the years to come will have an experience that was as great as mine. Twenty-seven AFS students spent a weekend at Warrensburg-Latham from March 30—April 1. They arrived late Friday morning, ate lunch and attended classes with their host students. Friday night the FHA sponsored a disco dance which was attended by the AFS visitors and members of W-L AFS club. On Sat- urday morning the AFS'ers met in the gym for fun and games, which included volleyball, badminton, and basketball. In the afternoon, the club toured Caterpillar and then visited Hickory Point Mall. That evening, all at- tended a party at the Warrensburg Illinois Park pavil- lion. After church Sunday morning, the AFS'ers had a potluck in the cafeteria, and enjoyed a talent show before returning home. 8 Vicki VanDerVoort, W-L FHA Chapter President; Tracy Ford, FHA State Nutrition Peer Educator; Lisa VanDerVoort, Pres- ident, FHA Section 4C. A sunny Friday afternoon parade started a successful weekend that brought a first to the se- nior float, May the Cardinal Force Be With You. The fight- ing Cardinals soundly defeated St. Joe Ogden, 32-22. Music by Hardy Street rocked its way through the Saturday evening dance where Queen Toni and King Jay reigned. 27 Oui‘ Miss Brooks Based on the orignal radio serial, which starred Eve Arden, Our Miss Brooks is a musical comedy concerning the tragedies and triumphs of a high school English teacher who attempts to arrange a school play in the same gym claimed by the coach. These two try to work out their troubles. Little do they realize that some- thing else is working on them! Rosanne West portrayed Miss Brooks, while Mike Delaney was her romantic counterpart, Coach Long. Principal Wadsworth, better known as Frank Albert, frantically coped with the operatic Miss Audubon, Rikki Johnson, and the angry school board pres- ident, Mrs. Allen, Jenny Harrison. Her daughter, portrayed by Tammy Wisnasky, flirted and schemed to steal the heart of Ted from his sweetheart Jane, played by Pat Haynes and Lorri Miller. All are win- ners in love and in the battle of the gym as the grand finale unites them in a rousing salute to Broadway. Love Is In The Air Blue and white streamers and a multitude of stars transformed the gym into a magical ballroom. After a de- licious meal, couples strolled across a bridge onto the floor to dance to the lively music of Hardy Street. With nervous yet elated smiles, roses in hand and caps on straight, the graduates of the class of 1979 marched slowly to the dignified strains of Pomp and Circumstance. The commencement exercises opened with the invocation by Rev. Dewey Zinn. Rosanne West saluted her friends, her fel- low classmates, and asked them to believe in themselves. Lee Ann Pixley urged the graduating class to accept life and to do their best. The senior chorus sang If There's a Song and Take a Hand for Holding. Mr. Ja- coby announced the honorary awards. Forty members of the graduating class who had B or higher grade averages stood to receive the plaudits of the assembly. The long awaited moment came when Mr. Dave Harris and Mr. Lee Motsinger handed each graduate their diploma, symbolic of four years of achievement. Then, as the triumphant recessional filled the air, the graduates circled the gym and accepted the congratulations of family and friends. It would seem that Mike Delaney said it all as he sang the song, The Times of Your Life, for the end of one time is the beginning of another. Do I really want to graduate?
